Montana de Oro State Park
Pecho Road,
Morro Bay,
California
This has been an all time favorite adventure location since I was a kid myself. There's so many trails and places to explore, the beach is nice as well as the tide pools. The kids love it as well. It's a nice campground and there are equestrian trails as well.

Glen Helen Regional Park
2555 Glen Helen Parkway,
San Bernardino,
California 92407
This is a great state park that has changed a lot over the years but still has its beautiful core. There is an amphitheater on the hill and sometimes there are venues like big name bands, so if you want peace and quiet check the calendars. There's also a waterside which is open during the summers, from Memorial day to Labor day weekends I believe.

Sequoia Park and Zoo
3414 W Street,
Eureka,
California 95503
This place is wonderful, especially for the price. The zoo is very basic, as some people have said, but good for the price and an easy stroll. The parks is absolutely the best! The small drive into the canyon is nice and there are plenty of play areas at the top and down the road. There are nice trails as well, and a lake to feed some ducks for fun time with the kids.

Avila Beach
Avila Beach Drive- head West,
Avila Beach,
California
Ever since this park and beach has been redone its been really nice! The park is safe and really great, especially for younger children. The beach is nice and can have bonfires still I believe. It's a nice little town area as well with some cute places to eat and such. The pier is worth a walk as well, as it's rather short.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park
15500 San Pasqual Valley Road,
Escondido,
California 92027
This place is a lot of fun, and certainly be prepared to be doing a lot of walking! The kids get warn out by the end of the day for sure. The tram tour costs a bit extra, but is worth it as you get to see fun animals out in larger habitats. Also, a good tip might be to bring a picnic lunch.
