About Me & My Family

We have four children, and have been traveling with them since they were born. We take day-trip "adventures" to both well-known and out-of-the-way places, and we're trying to see as much as the USA as we can. We love the back roads and things off the beaten path.
Our Family's Travel Personality
curious
We Just Got Back From
a 12-day, 3850-mile roadtrip to San Antonio and environs, which included outrunning a major Midwest snowstorm.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Chicago--there's so much to do, and it's within a day's drive
A Place We'd Love To Visit
the Grand Canyon
Favorite Vacation Memory
Sitting on a beautiful sandy beach on a warm summer day . . . at Grand Beach, an hour north of Winnipeg, Manitoba!
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Four of the six of us getting sick, in a motel room, on Christmas Eve.
Websites I Like:
http://minnemom.com is my own Travels with Children website. There you can find more detailed reviews of almost everything I've reviewed here on Trekaroo.

For your comment regarding:

Does anyone else feel like an upaid "Mommy Travel Agent"?

You said:

"I, too, usually can enjoy the actual vacation because of the amount of time I put in prior to leaving. Friends tell me, "I should hire you to plan our vacation," and I think to myself, "You couldn't afford me because I could easily put in hundreds of hours!"

I recently wrote a post on some of the steps I take while planning that help the trip to go more smoothly. http://minnemom.com/2012/01/05/vacation-planning-basics/ Some of these are very time-consuming but reap rewards when everything falls into place, or the backups I've penciled in bail us out of a change in plans."

Thanks for the tips.  Your post was very helpful.  Do you mind if I use some of your tips for a Trekaroo blog post that I'm preparing?  I will probably also link back to your original article in the blog post.  Let me know if you don't mind.  Thanks again.

You are welcome!
I really recommend not waiting in line or getting a fastpass.  I felt that the views were almost identical to what we got with our reserved fastpass.
Happy travels!

Is the Glockenspiel still in New Ulm. We stopped 10 years ago (before kids) on the way from a wedding and had a very memorable time. My husband and I found the neatness remarkable and the people very friendly. We still talk about it today!!!

Of course.  We have been meaning to do so...just hadn't gotten around to it.  I'll do it right now since I'm editing stuff on the blog.

I'll send you a badge.  I need to edit it slightly.

Matt's El Rancho can get really busy on the weekends but you can call ahead and put your name on the list.  And it usually doesn't take too long.
You need to go to Lupe Tortilla in Houston, huge sandbox for the kids to play in.
San Antonio's zoo is ok.  We like Houston's better.
The Austin Children's Museum is great.  We were just there last week and the kids didn't want to leave (after 2 hours of nonstop play).  There are a few restaurants within walking distance of it too.  Austin Java and Jo's are both reasonably priced and kid friendly.
If you go to Fredericksburg you have to take your kids to Rather Sweet Bakery for a treat it's GOOD!  And try Alamo Springs on your way back to Austin....and you can even swing through Luckenbach.  http://www.luckenbachtexas.com/ for a taste of Outlaw Texas - HA! There is so much to do in central Texas.
If you come across anything else of interest and have any questions let me know.

The skate rental is included in the $10 cost of admission.  Have fun!

Wowzie! You have so many reviews up. Inspired me to get some more finally done (as I've been promising I'll do). :)

Oh wise one, please enlighten me. I need answers and you have them.

This list is awesome! I was just thinking that we needed a quick itinerary how to visit the historical area of Philadelphia. You are so awesome. FYI, I'm putting together a blogpost on top activities in Philly and will be quoting your review of Liberty Bell is it.

Thanks so much!
