Anderson's Bookshops
Naperville ,
Downers Grove,
Downers Grove,
Illinois
Anderson's is a beloved family owned bookshop in Naperville. Our family loves to spend time just browsing the books and the kids love to look at their giant toy section. They have classic toys like Melissa and Doug and Playmobile. I recommend taking a trip to Anderson's and then cruising down the streets of Naperville to Cookie Dough Creations which mixes cookie dough (egg free) with their yummy ice cream! A great treat!

KEYLIME COVE WATER RESORT
1700 Nations Dr,
Gurnee, Illinois
We found a decent deal when we booked our mini vacation for two nights during the weekdays. Our room was about $99 (add tax and resort fee). The cost of the room does include waterpark passes for each family member. We packed a cooler and kept our mini fridge stocked so we didn't have to spend extra money on hotel and waterpark food. This saved us a bundle! Room was clean and nice and the waterpark was a blast!

Discovery Center Museum
711 North Main Street,
Rockford,
Illinois 61103
I used to go to the Discovery Center when I was a kid...now I can take my kids. We love the interactive exhibits! Be sure to stop by the Planetarium Show (costs $1) at least once. It is so cool. My son loves to go with his grandparents. The Discovery Center is fun for all ages!

Shedd Aquarium
1200 S. Lake Shore Drive,
Chicago,
Illinois 60605
We love the Shedd! What a great place to spend family time. It is pretty pricey but I did some research and found that in January and February of 2011 they have over 20 free days...including all next week! We are going to try to go again during a free day. Though the place gets packed we are just patient and enjoy a cheap outing!

The Field Museum
1400 S. Lake Shore Dr.,
Chicago,
Illinois 60605
This is one of the better Museums around! It is filled with tons of exhibits. I don't recommend taking young children...it is not particularly fun for them. Also, be sure to check out the free days schedule for the museum to get a deep discount. I just did a Google search for Field Museum free day schedule. There are over 50 free days throughout the year. Although this only includes general admission.
