"As bad as the reviews say..."
Stayed here Memorial Day weekend. Upside - close to bay area and wineries. Shady sites. Downside - a bit close to neighbors. Just had to lean over to borrow items off their table.
I read the reviews to this campground prior to heading out and thought that there was some mistake or maybe the reviews were old because there's no way there would be that amount of poison oak or ticks on a site.
Reality?? --->>Ridiculous amounts of poison oak. Are you kidding me?! Three sides of our campsite (#6) were lined w the stuff. And ticks mustve just feasted on a blood bath because they were EVERYWHERE!!
Great place to visit if you're one of the lucky few not allergic to poison oak and you're impervious to ticks.

"Hiking, Trail Jogging, Mountain bike Riding"
This is a great place take the family for a day of exploring and hiking. The trails are relatively easy and while occasionally narrow, most are well suited for kids of all ages. There are a few climbing areas that your little ones would enjoy. They require careful supervision as the rocks quickly drop off creating hazards.
The parking lot is frequently full, but you rarely run into other hikers along the way (which is a testament to the size of this park!) The people here are quite friendly and dogs are also welcome (leash please and PLEASE pick up after them!)

Frosty's Tree Farm

"Cut your own...all trees $60"
Every year we cut down our own tree. This year we decided to do it the day after Thanksgiving. Ambitious you say? Overzealous? Maybe, but we went for it anyway. We returned to Frosty's after exploring a few other farms. We returned because my daughter insisted on going for the free cocoa she had learned about. What a draw!
We walked up and down along the mountainside until we found a tree that suited our needs. Unlike the usual Charlie Brown trees she selected in the past, this year we went the other direction 10 feet of pure Christmas spirit and joy.
We put it up shorty after and amazingly, at the time of this writing...we're taking it down now... it's still green and keeping it's needles. Thanks Frosty's for giving us a great tree and plenty of time to enjoy the holidays.
Pros -
1. Frosty's is great because its $60 for any tree regardless of size,
2. They offer free hot cocoa, candy canes and coffee,
3. There's an outhouse for those last minute nature calls.
4. It's in a beautiful setting at the top of Skyline
For those of you who might need to put a tree of whatever size up on your roof instead of in the cabin of your SUV here are some things to consider:
1. They don't net your tree which means you need to bring your own tarp and wrap that bad boy up right. We saw two trees laying on the side of 17, victim to outrageous highway winds.
2. I think they offer twine, but let's be real...if you're driving on 17 or 85 or anywhere that takes you above 45 mph, you're gonna need something a little sturdier. Come prepared.
Aside from that, have fun! And YES. It is absolutely worth the time and trouble to chop down a tree that your child picks out. They'll remember it and most likely, so will you.

We've been here several times. There are a few fun rides depending on the age and temperament of your children. The elephant ride looks interesting and we may try it the next time we venture that way.
Overall the park is very crowded, the parking lot is about a half mile from the entrance so you'll have to hoof it, or take the tram. I wasn't enchanted with the metal detector and security guard check prior to entering the park. (Glad that they're doing it, but is it really that necessary and if it is, do I really want to be here with children??? The lines are long, and it lacked the ambiance of Disneyland to capture our hearts. If you are looking for a way to entertain the kiddies and don't mind the crowds this is the park for you.

We love this place. Built as a home to a shipping magnate, Mr. William Bowers Bourne, and named after his motto, “Fight for a just cause; Love your fellow man; Live a good life.” The house and grounds have been used for numerous films (a list is available in the entryway). The gardens are beautiful and seasonal. It's a great place to celebrate Mother's Day with a tasty brunch and a special family time away from technology. The house has a number of "hidden" cabinets and entry ways. We were able to find a few. How many can you find?
