Encinal Swim Center
230 Central Avenue,
Alameda,
California
The swim center has limited hours for family swim during the week and the week-ends. A couple of hours here and there. It is not made for people who want to spend their day at the pool. The facilities are old. Not the best place to take children for a swim.

Glass Beach
Old Haul Road/Elm Street,
Fort Bragg,
California
Glass beach is a small beach in Fort Bragg where little pieces of glass can be found mixed with the sand. I thought it would be covered in glass but it is not, you really need to sit down and look for it. You are not supposed to pick up the glass but we saw lots of people who were actually doing so.

Van Damme State Park
Highway 1,
Mendocino,
California 95460
"Very interesting place to go"
This is a very interesting place to go visit on a day or week-end out in Mendocino. The trees are malnourished and therefore never grew to be a regular size. There is a wooden path so it is easy to tour the trees without damaging anything walking around. It is a short tour that can be done in 30 minutes and it is very enjoyable.

Boudin Bakery at Fisherman's Wharf
160 Jefferson Street,
San Francisco,
California 94133
As you stand in front of their window, you can ask the bakers some questions as they are preparing the dough to be shaped as a crab, a crocodile, turtles and other critters. You can even go into the bakery and buy one of their goodies. There is a museum upstairs but we did not visit it, we felt that the price of admission may not be worth it, it looked small.

Alameda Museum
2324 Alameda Avenue,
near park street,
Alameda,
California
"Hold all the secrets of Alameda"
The Alameda museum is a small venue but is full of treasures about the past life of the island of Alameda as well as artifacts of the past and the famous Neptune beach park. My daughter really liked the doll house with all the little pieces of furniture as well as the old telephone switchboards. The museum is really about educating about the past and is really successful about it. An hidden gem.
