Louisville Slugger Museum
800 West Main St. ,
Louisville,
Kentucky 40202
Our family LOVES baseball, but I do not think you need to be passionate fans to have a great time at the Louisville Slugger Museum. We have been to the museum twice, once when our kids were 8,10, and 12 and more recently they were ages 13, 15, and 17. At any age, there is a lot of interactive exhibits and the factory tour is both interesting and fun!
Other than the Slugger Museum, there is not really much to see in that area. Both times we stopped because we were passing through, I am not sure it is a destination trip. Hotels are not walking distance so plan on driving and paying for parking
Baseball fan or not, it is fun to see how bats are made and to experience all the fun in the museum. This is not one of those quiet museums, let the kids go and have some fun!

"Houseboat First-Timers!"
Grab some friends and hit Wisdom Dock on Dale Hollow Lake on the TN/KY border. We were two families strong, 10 people, 4 adults and 6 kids that ranged in age from 8-17, all of whom had a great time!
First, if you have never been house boating before, be aware that is much like camping on water. There is a lot of preparation that goes into a trip like this, but the payoff is fantastic! Meal planning, entertainment (board games, rafts, fishing poles), and all the incidentals you need in your everyday life need to be packed and brought aboard. It helps to have older kids during the loading and unloading portion of the trip; it may be a bit too much with very young children. At Wisdom, carts are brought to your car to load up and then your group can start bringing their supplies down to the houseboat. There is always a danger on docks, if you do have smaller kids, be sure there are eyes always on them!
Once you are settled and you are taken to the mouth of the bay, you are off! We rented a jet ski and towed that behind us the entire time. It turned out to be not only fun but helpful in getting some needed Dramamine for someone and the occasional bags of ice that were needed for the coolers. It was nice to just jet out to the nearest marina instead of taking the houseboat and attempting to dock it ourselves.
There was fun for everyone, fishing, tubing, snorkeling, and lots of swimming. We learned quickly that finding the right cove is very important at night. There are many places to tuck away at night, and after a few days we found one we loved and just stayed there. We took our houseboat to many different sites, including Sulpher Creek where there is a great snorkeling area called The Rock. We spent a few fun hours there, but make sure you have water shoes as the rocks are very slippery and sharp! This is also a place that you will need to swim to from your houseboat. This is NOT for little ones. The 8 year old in our group did just fine with a life vest on, and she really enjoyed the experience.
We ate on the boat every day, three meals a day which is nice when traveling with kids. There was a grill on board and we had a full kitchen at our disposal also. The refrigerator is nice, but not cold enough to keep lunchmeat very fresh. Stick with PB and J, frozen pizzas, mac and cheese, or any other easy standby for lunch. Also remember to prepare as much as you can ahead of time and remember the space constraints. We marinated our meats at home and froze them for the ride to keep them fresh on the boat. Burgers and hot dogs are also a good bet for this trip. Buy milk at the grocery store in Albany and bring cereal and breakfast foods from home.
There is a TV on board, but be careful not to count of the satellite signal. Bring a variety of DVDs with you just in case. Also be prepared with some fun indoor activities in case of rain. We were very lucky, but it could be a long day stuck inside a smaller space then you are used to with double the people.
Overall, this was a fantastic trip, and we would do it again in a heartbeat. Our kids were the perfect age for this trip, and fun was had by all! We stayed on our boat for 4 nights 5 days mid-week and that was a perfect amount of time. The lake was not crowded at all and we were able to find seclusion in the prestine Dale Hollow Lake.
