Oregon Coast Aquarium

Look for a coupon in the summer in one of the free parent magazines, I think one of them is Metro Parent, we usually find ours in the local library. The last 2 summers it has been for a free child admission with purchase of an adult. Otherwise it cost a small fortune for the entire family.
It is a very nice aquarium with tons to see. They have the touch pool where you can feel the starfish and such, this is always a hit with my boys. We went when the boys were 7 & 9, they really enjoyed the shark encounter where you basically walk through a tunnel with sharks swimming above you and all around you, a total immersion experience. They moved quickly through the smaller displays and weren't interested in reading about the facts for each display. I think this is a great attraction for kids of all ages. Bring in your own food and snacks because those are expensive as well. For the price they charge normally I wouldn't go, 2 for 1, yes.

"Great For Whale Watching"
My boys were able to spot their first whales here! They have rangers here that tell you how to spot them out on the horizon and binoculars for you to use also. They even had a scavenger hunt for my 8 & 10 year old to do, this was good because it actually encouraged them to read and interact with the exhibits to find the clues. They got to pick out a cool agate as a prize. Definitely kid friendly. Little tots will like to go up the stairs to the observatory and just look out at the ocean and run around up there. They touch things too, so no prob there. Lots of interesting exhibits for the kids to look at and there's no charge. It is small and intimate, nothing fancy but surely worth your time and effort.

Fort Stevens State Park
US 101,
Astoria,
Oregon
This is a gem of a state park on the Oregon Coast. Went last year, 2010, for Spring Break. My oldest son wanted to get up early every morning to go fishing at Coffenberry (not sure of spelling) Lake. He never did catch anything but that didn't discourage him. Another favorite activity was rolling, sliding, etc down the huge sand dunes. Great for kids of all ages, they even had a small park that would be good for toddlers. It's at the beach, every person of every age can find something to do at the beach. I think for older kids with bikes who can ride longer distances it would be great. We had to drive to the different areas as our 7 & 9 couldn't bike that far. Their was nothing the boys didn't like doing here. Although the weather could have been nicer, but nothing you can do about that, just make sure you bring rain gear. Hot dogs over the fire and walks around the campground, a great place to camp with lots of activities.

Enchanted Forest

We went August 2010 on a beautiful sunny day. Since this park is very much in the shade of the trees in a literal forest it's always 10 degrees cooler here, which is nice on a hot day. Boys went with their 3 year old cousin for the first time. They enjoyed showing him all the things that were new to him, the witches mouth, the shoe slide, the castle and everything else. I think once we hit 12 years old with the boys they won't enjoy it enough to come anymore. But ages 1 to 12 it's great for. My 8 & 10 year old were not interested in reading the fairytale stories and looking at the scenes that involved no interaction. The 3 year old was a little leary of the scary witch mouth, the dark rabbit hole, and the dwarves thing. But he loved the slide in the Old West and couldn't do it enough times. All the boys enjoyed the water show. Food is fairly priced but you can also bring your own in. We always have fun here, but wish the all inclusive wasn't so expensive. We let them pick one extra ride to pay for, they chose the log ride, which they loved. The plays they do are always hilarious, the children and adults are laughing.

Legoland
1 Legoland Drive,
Carlsbad,
California
We went when our son was 4. It was a good time but there were some of the rides that he wasn't big enough for, which was frustrating for him and us as they were generally the ones that looked like actual fun for us. Also on one ride they had someone checking height at the bottom where you got in line and then again at the top, my son made it through the first check only to be told after waiting in line at the top that he wasn't tall enough. This did not go over well with our 4 year old, lots of tears later we were able to move on. He did love digging in the sand for dinosaur bones, and the fun firetown academy was a favorite ride. Older kids will like the rollercoaster themed rides, but I don't think kids over 12 would get enough out of this park. I wish we would have waited until he was 6 before we brought him since it was a one shot deal for us. If you have a child who is a huge lego fan this park is a definite must do, but otherwise it's good if your in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip.
