"Beautiful, espec at christmas"
Wonderful, clean, well maintained train station/mall/restaurants. Easy access to Amtrack, Metro and MD train system. Good parking in garage. Lots of elevators and escalators. At Christmas, there is a Swedish model train display. Little kids love it! Best restaurants is Chicago Pizzareia Uno.

Gettysburg National Military Park

Be sure to watch the movie "Gettysburg" before you head out to see the battlefield. Nice driving tour and cool place to take out of town visitors. Little kids might get bored. But teens or history buffs will love it. The downtown area is cool but getting a little too corporate and busy. Go in the winter. You get a REAL feel for what these soldiers endured during harsh weather.

Amazing museum with great rooms of information. Nice couple of gift shops. Foyer is beautiful. Not great for little kids b/c there is reading but the experience is still very special. Nice location in DC ... lots of open spots off season for parking and lots of handicapped.

Washington Nationals Park

great place to watch the nation's baseball team; great location. Take Metro, do not drive. If you do drive, parking garage is very convenient but like $20+ or something. Free parking is minimal. Cheap seats are in the outfield. Excellent food choices around the stadium.

National Building Museum

if your son enjoys legos, blocks, buildings, etc. this is perfect. Huge foyer on the main floor with space to have your own picnic. Nice restaurant inside the museum. Parking is a little easier than most museums. Current LEGO display is amazing. All confined to one room. And there is room for kids to build and display their own towers.
