Playground in Downtown Alto
corner of 60th and Linfield,
Alto,
Michigan 49302
Because Alto is such a small town, the playground is often quiet. There is a small pavilion, including a picnic table, as well as a swinging bench to rest while the kids play. Kids will enjoy swings, slides, and a mini zip line. Just because it's a small playground doesn't mean it's less fun! :-)

Forest Hills Baptist Church Base Camp

"The coolest VBS/Day Camp around!"
For five evenings each summer (the first week of August), a staff of about 70 people at FHBC welcome a horde of children to the church. Base Camp - like a combination of Vacation Bible School and day camp - offers an energetic worship band, funny jokes and skits, drama, deep Bible lessons, small group time, and awesome games. It's geared toward children who will enter kindgergarten through 7th grade in the fall. Highly recommend it.

Forest Hills Baptist Church AWANA

"Community, fun, learning"
Children ages 3 through sixth grade will love the storytime, games, and small group time that comprises the AWANA program at Forest Hills Baptist Church. You can even join us for a meal before the program, which is wonderful for families who would be rushed through dinner between work and church! And while your children are enjoying themselves, there are also small group Bible studies for the parents. It's a win-win!

Gardens - childrens, botanical, desert

"Summer fun for children!"
We had the opportunity to visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens one time, and the children had an absolute BLAST in the children's area! There is a huge play area, as well as a water area where they got MUCH more wet than I had planned - ha! The only part of the playground that stressed me out was the wooden play house that was so huge I couldn't always SEE the kids, and they're young enough that I really always like to have an eye on them!

Kent District Library summer reading program
6071 Linfield Ave.,
Alto,

"Summer reading, with perks!"
Our children have loved participating in the KDL summer reading program these past two summers. As young children, they are each given a chart with stickers to keep track of each day they read, or tell a story, or are read to, etc. Then, after a specified number of "stickerfied" days have passed, they can bring their completed chart and information in to the library to receive a bag of prizes - including certificates for free pizza and free admission to a hockey game! Woo-hoo! There are also fun "extra" activities during the summer to promote reading, which they love participating in!
