linville caverns

If you go to Linville for the falls you must take the kids to the Linville Caverns. You get to go down into the caverns and see the stalagmites and stalactites and how these caverns have formed over the years. There are also some blind fish that swim in the underground water that the kids will love too. Its kind of a tight fit in some places so if you are claustrophobic then I wouldn't really recommend going all the way to the end where the "bottomless pit" is. But this is probably one of the coolest things I've seen in NC and I will always remember when I went when I was a kid.

If you've never taken your kids to a NASCAR race, its something that you must do if you live in the south. Be aware that there are plenty of people partying so you might wanna try to shield the kids from this while walking to the track. But this is something that you and your kids will never forget. Race tickets can get a little expensive but as long as you don't go all the time its a great thing to do on a special occasion.

"Grasshoppers are Awesome!!"
We live in Greensboro and we take the kids to see the Grasshoppers all the time. The tickets are super cheap and the atmosphere is very fun for the kids and adults. Our favorite time to go is on the fourth of July where we get a grass seat and sit on a blanket. The fireworks are great and the kids love to see the team dog run out on the field and do tricks. You just don't get much better than a baseball game in the summer with the kids. This is a must do in the piedmont.

"Nice day trip from Pigeon Forge."
This is more of a stay in your car type activity but you can ride bikes around the area if you want. The scenery is beautiful and if you're lucky you'll see some wildlife which is good for the kids. There are also some historic buildings that are pretty interesting for the adults. My family really enjoyed Cade's Cove and we also went to a local park and played in the creek. For a good little excursion I would recommend Cade's Cove for all families.

"Fun time and lots of samples."
This is a great place to take the kids and let them pick out fresh locally grown foods from farms across the piedmont. There are lots of vendors that will let you try samples of their products so that's alway fun too. I think this place can be a great place for kids to learn about organic local foods versus the grocery store so they can see where things actually come from. A must do in the triad.
