Elmwood Park Zoo

Great little zoo to visit. We have a membership that we were able to get at 50%off! Which is very nice for us because we live close and can visit more then once. The walk up cost is
ADULT (Ages 13-64) - $9.00
CHILD (Ages 2-12) - $6.00
SENIOR (Ages 65+) - $6.00
BABY (Under 2 year) - FREE
You don't need to pay for parking! Thats always nice. A side note, if you have a stroller I have found it easier to park on the lower parking lot. It's a much easier to walk into and out of the park with the stroller.
I have only given it 4 stars as of right now because we have visited in the winter months and they are working on some of the exhibits. So some of the animals are not out right now.
It is not a big zoo but there are still a lot of animals to see in the winter. They have bison, bobcat, mountain lion, alpaca, sheep, otter, fox, turtles, and an alligator just to name a few. There is a petting barn area (we haven't been able to experience that yet) which is opened daily April through November. And pony rides (available april through september) with an additional cost.
On our first visit to the zoo we were there in the winter and basically had the whole zoo to ourselves! So we started off visiting the animals which took about an hour and a half. Then we headed to the gated(other then the entrance) playground that's in the center of the park and let the kids run any extra energy off! It's a really nice playground with swings, a sandbox type area, a smaller gym to climb on for little ones and a larger one for bigger kids. After they ran of their energy, we sat down for lunch. You can bring your own packed lunch which saves money! They have picnic tables all around the zoo. We decided to sit at tables right next to the playground area which were really nice. And there was also a restroom close in sight just in case we had to get there fast with one of the potty training toddlers.
I am really excited to visit the zoo again when more of the exhibits are open. We always enjoy our times there so far! I look forward to updating this post once we get into some warmer months!

Great place to come and visit! Only 4 stars because it is expensive. We ended up going on a day that was free to the public. Had a great time. I wouldn't bring a stroller if you also have a little one who is walking. There are areas where you may want to go that it wouldn't be as easy using the stroller. I brought a stroller for my two kids and ended up not using it at all. I was basically pushing the diaper bag:-) I wore my 1 year old and my 3 year old walked the whole time. My 3 yr old loved the indoor kids water area! That was great for her. She didn't even want to leave that area. We walked up a treehouse and saw a huge fountain. She enjoyed all of it. Mostly just a great place for her to have space to move around and a ton of beauty to look at!

I would give it 5 stars but it is very expensive. You can buy discounted tickets at any of the local giant food stores. There are also coupons in fast food restaurants. We have always had a great time at Hersheypark! They still have a ton of rides for little kids and also a ton of rides for us adults. You can also use the kid swap for rides that your kids may be too scared or little to ride on. There is a lot to do in the park. The zoo is also included in your admission so you could spend a good two days at the park. Food is not cheap so if you have the time I would eat a big breakfast before you enter the park and leave for the afternoon. Have a late lunch/early dinner. Then head back into the park in the late afternoon/ evening. The lines should be shorter at the end of the day as well.
Tip.... Get to the park when it opens and If your kids can get past the rides at the front of the park go to the back of the park, the midway area. You will be able to get on the rides w/o waiting in long lines.
They also have a lot of water attractions on those hotter days.

This park has a lot of rides geared towards little kids. We have a 1year old and a 3 year old. The 3 year old loved the park. She was able to go on mostly all of the rides... some she needed an adult to go on with her. There were also a fair amount of rides that our family of 4 were able to go on together. We also took advantage of the preview plan. We live about 2 hours away so one day we came out to the outlets in the morning and then headed over to the park. WE purchased full day tickets 3 hours before the park closed and asked to preview the park. (you can also use coupons on those tickets) So basically we got in "free" for those last 3 hours. We can use the tickets again for a whole day some other day this season.
When we visited in May, there were barely any lines. Didn't have to wait long at all. Longest wait was for the train ride, about 5 minutes. we were able to do in 3 hours the: train, boat, turning house, frog hopper, dance show, bee ride, kids coster, log flume, airplane ride, fun slide and carrousel. 3 hours for the ages of our kids actually was a great amount of time. And they slept on the way home. The new dance show was great. The kids get up and dance with dancers and our oldest had a lot of fun doing that.

It is a nice place to visit. We were there at the beginning of December. We went so that we could also see the lights at night as well. The sea through boat tour is fun for kids and adults as well. Real little ones might not be as interested in the boat tour. They also have animals in the park as well as some rides. Our daughter went on her first carrousel ride at this park. Nice clean park. We had a really good time and it was a nice thing to do instead of the big theme parks while visiting family in Florida.
