BEST WESTERN INN | kids travel, kids activities
BEST WESTERN INN
316 El Camino Real,
Redwood City, California
"o.k. to stay there but ...."
We stayed at the Best Western in Redwood City in March 2010, because it had good reviews on some sites and we got a deal for 70 bucks per night and hey, Best Western is usually o.k.. The room was clean and internet access for free. The quality of the breakfast did depend on the person who was in charge of that. On some days we had the full choice of pastries and drinks and on some days we could be glad if we got something at all. There is a STACK S next to the Best Western and Redwood City has an awesome breakfast place called Alana s, that is on Main Street and a 5min drive from the Best Western.
The pool area looked nice and secluded from the street, but it was too cold for a swim. The area around that hotel is not too charming, but downtown Redwood City has become a nice place for going out. Maybe not the hotel and the location where you want to spend your vacation.
The thing I did not like at all was that I at the second night of our stay I unexpectedly found a strange drunk guy in my bed - the receptionist had given him the wrong key. I know that this could also happen in a good hotel, but still who wants such a surprise???!!!

Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel | kids travel, kids activities
Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel
625 El Camino Real,
Palo Alto, California
"nice, but pricey"
We did stay at the Sheraton in March 2010. The surroundings are not too great, because it is located directly at the El Camino (busy street), but University Avenue with all the shops and restaurants is within 5 min walking distance.
The pool area is very nice, it is secluded from the street and has some comfy lounge chairs where you can sip your drink. The pool is heated and open until somewhen at night. The room was clean and pleasantly furnished.
Be aware that there are all kinds of extra fees before you book. Parking is extra (I forgot how much) and Internet access also is an extra 10 bucks per day.

Marriott Spring Hill Suites
14620 Aviation Boulevard,
Hawthorne, California
"Do not go there"
So, this was positive:

- We had a 2 bedroom suite close to the Queen Ann and the Getty Museum.
- The crib was good and for free.
- There were some grocery stores close by.
- The place has a gym.

This was not so good:

- The room was the dirtiest hotel room I have ever seen. There was a pair of shoes from an other guest under one bed and we found used dishes and used Q-tips on the floor - disgusting.
- The room was not quiet, so we woke up around 6am because of the morning traffic.
- The pool is next to the parking lot and it is not to be used in winter.

So, do not go there!

Stratosphere Tower - Casino & Resort Hotel | kids travel, kids activities
Stratosphere Tower - Casino & Resort Hotel
2000 Las Vegas Blvd S,
Las Vegas, Nevada
"cheap and good"
We stayed at the Stratosphere Tower several times and this is why:

- The rooms are very cheap, but clean, quiet and well renovated.
- The breakfast menu (13 dollars) is good.
- Guests can ride up the tower for free - you have a breathtaking overview over Las Vegas.

This is not so positive:
- You have to walk long distances to get through this place!
- The surroundings are not nice, park at the Mirage or somewhere else for going out, do not walk around in this neighbourhood.
- The receptionists had us wait for a long time and gave us the key to a room that was already taken (All this fuss took about an hour until we had our room.).

There are other anemities on this site, like some spa services and a gym and a casino (!!!), but as we have not used any of these I cannot give a comment about these.

Holiday Inn Express - Grand Canyon Village South | kids travel, kids activities
Holiday Inn Express - Grand Canyon Village South
Hwy 64,
Grand Canyon, Arizona
"staying there is o.k."
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Tusayan in January 2010.
This was positive:
- It is located a 5 min drive from the Grand Canyon National Park South Entrance.
- The rooms were o.k..
- The hotel has an indoor pool with a hot tub.
- Hotel is located in walking distance to 3 or 4 restaurants and the IMAX.
- Rooms were clean.

This was not so good:
-Breakfast is only served until 9.30 (Arizona time!) and the staff was not able to give us some milk for our little one after that.
- The pool area was not heated and ice cold. The pool was heated.
- Rooms could have needed some renovation, the heating system is very loud.

So, staying at this hotel is o.k but not more.
