Mission San Carlos Borromeo Del Rio Carmel

Carmel,

"Great place for learning about the California Missions"
We've been to about 6 of the missions, and this is probably the prettiest. Only surpassed by La Purisima in Oxnard, this Mission is the burrial place of Junipero Serra. The courtyard was very beautiful with a gorgeous garden. One turnoff was that since this is a very popular church for weddings, there's always something going on. The kids liked the mission and we took a ton of pictures.

Arches National Park
Hwy 191,
PO Box 907 ,
Moab,
Utah 84532
We were there in December 2005. With a shoestring budget, we headed out between Christmas and new years and we had a blast. We drove into Arches and we loved the rock formations. We still recall the great and awesome views of the valley and the unusual rock formations. Coming in Winter, we had the place all to ourselves. We must have seen at most 3 or 4 other cars at one place. I especially loved the off-road trails that allow a city guy like me to put our 4x4 thru a nice drive. Our kids remember because it was the bumpiest ride ever. I'm planning to go back again next spring.

Palomar Mountain State Park

"Nice fishing pond for small kids"
We camped here a few years ago with very young kids (4mos-4 yr olds) in the month of August. Warm days, nice fishing (a little windy), but in the evening, it got very cool. I remember because our 4mo old needed to be put into the sleeping bag with us. We still talk about that. He's now 9yrs old and way too big for our sleeping bag. Nice place to go if you have little ones. safe campground.

Point Lobos State Reserve

"Favorite place for tidepools"
We absolutely love Point Lobos. We love the many trails, and especially the vistas at every turn. We cannot say enough about this beautiful place. Our kids love the tidepools, where crabs, urchins, amemonies, and many shellfish can be easily found. We cannot say enough about this place. Breathtaking. No trip to Big Sur is complete without visiting Point Lobos.

Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias in Yosemite

"Dissappointed about Mariposa Grove"
It took way too long to get there from the Yosemite valley and when we got there, we were turned away because of lack of parking. GRR. After backtracking 14 miles to Wawona, we left our van and took a shuttle. When we got to Mariposa Grove, everything was for sale. Even the maps were not free. The guided tour was 15 bucks each...way too pricey for me. We walked to the Grizley tree. This tree was the best tree worth seeing. It was a seedling when Christ was born! Overall, we were better off walking, but it seemed really long, especially for small feet.
