Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Sitting on the tarmac in a plane with the a/c turned off - my son was 18 months and became so uncomfortable. Requests to turn on the air were ignored....

Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden | kids travel, kids activities
Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden

"Skip it and drive to Louisville or Indy's zoos"
An older zoo that seemed to evolve organically rather than with any real planning, Mesker Park is a lot of hilly walking and very little enjoyment. The enclosures are outdated and too small while being far apart. The high-points are the Prairie Dog & Otter exhibits, but def not worth the price of admission.

"The Water Deck and 2nd Floor are amazing!"
Well worth the price of admission, cMoe offers experiences for all ages. While the 1st floor was a bit of a snooze fest for me [my 4yr old interacted with everything], the 2nd floor was one amazing exhibit after another. One wing is dedicated to the human body while the other is all about the Arts - our fav! Age app rooms for the very youngest crawler let onto an amazing percussion room, a nook for doing shadow puppetry, stop-motion animation, face-painting and a stage fit for treading the boards. The 'Duck' rooms are great, 1 up and 1 down, where children transform into architects and engineers while they play with air cannons and water. We did everything twice and plan to go back.

The gift store is minimal and food is limited to what you carry-in, but a great, small-town children's museum!

"A Train Enthusiast's Dream!"
Part of the larger museum campus, this attraction was a must see for a little boy obsessed with trains. Climb aboard a restored engine, club car and caboose - all under an all-weather enclosure. Admission is separate from others, but is very small and includes partially hands on displays that allow little engineers to start model rail roads and steer a paddle boat.

"Little Lords and Ladies Love it!"
Sign up for their eMailing List to get fabulous discounts early in the year for this seasonal event. We got our adult tickets 2-for-1 at a Father's Day sale online and our son was free! [4 & under]

While parking is a bit disorganized, once you enter the Faire itself you can be sure of a friendly welcome and a wonderful day. Within the first 5 minutes a fairy had given my son a magic stone and a Knight had stopped to speak with him and bestowed a 'golden' chain on him. Pony rides, bubble blowing, watching the Joust and several trips through the Celestial Circus tent and my son had had a wonderful time.

Go in costume or not - plenty of others are! Lots of FANTASTIC food [change your money for Avaloch Dollars first] and shopping. Unique entertainment not available at other Ren Fairs and a varied and vast Cast to make it all wonderful. All under shade trees, so heat and sun burn are not a problem.

"Art Classes that delight!"
This amazing collection is expanding into new galleries soon - but while you pardon their dust there is still so much to see! Fabulous installations and cultural offerings. The food in the café is top notch as well!

My son and I attended a series of Art Classes for kids and their adult that were just amazing! Gifted and thoughtful teachers plan trips through the galleries together that then are explored through creative expression in the classroom.
