Navy Pier

This may be free to get in and look at all of the stores but trust me you will shell out money to make this enjoyable for your family. There is a huge and delightful candy store and a Build-A- Bear store that everyone seems to love. The best free things to do are in the winter when holiday lights are up and decorations are inside. Also, being able to see the fudge being made inside one of the stores is free entertainment as well especially if you follow up with a free sample piece. The movie area is great too but of course not free. We saw Happy Feet there a few years back and the huge IMAX screen was great.

Noah's Ark Water Park

This is great for all ages. Just bring your bathing suit and you are ready to go. There are often hotel and theme park discount tickets online, which will save you more money to go shopping in and around the park. There is so much to do. Everyone will be very tan and tired by the end of your trip.

Quincy Market aka Faneuil Hall Marketplace
Quincy Market,

well while the younger kids didn't see much to do, i enjoyed it. While there i could tell them something about the history (i.e. see the old buildings, etc.). Walking up and down the streets and seeing the different stores was enjoyable. This was historical and full of conversation starters and a way to wear out the kids with walking.

Taste of Chicago

Grant Park,

"changes in 2011 but still great"
this event was free to get in and then tickets were needed to be bought to get food, but the city said they loose money on this event every year and they want to start charging just to get in.....besides that bad news the taste of Chicago is great especially for visitors is like a jam packed Chicago experience...there are certain days where there are activities just for the kids including face painting and a free kids themed concert...great to go to

Six Flags Great America
1 Great America Parkway,
Gurnee,
Illinois 60031
the fun times can really add up at Six Flags....if you dont have a coke/pepsi product to get some money off the price is pretty steep if you have a big family. Then after you are in, hopefully you went in the morning when the lines aren't that long otherwise you are going to spend time waiting in lines.....the animal farm area is cool for the kids and the food is ok but pricey but they know we wont let the kids starve and when the kids see the food they want it...dipping dots make the trip worth it though...there is also a water park which is fun for all as well
