About Me & My Family

My wife Claudia and I have one baby son born in July 2009. We live in San Francisco and have family in the US, Brazil, Japan, and Ireland, so we get a lot of travel time. We have a lot of travel experience, but with the addition of our son, the way we travel will be completely different. However, we don't plan to slow down and travel less, so Trekaroo will be an important part of our planning and preparations. Thanks Trekaroo!

"Playground in San Fran's Marina"
This is a fun playground for toddlers and babies. I haven't yet taken my 8 month old here, but if I happen to be in the Fort Mason/Marina area and need a play structure or swings, this playground is in good shape. The surrounding area is full of great walking space. From the convenience of this playground, you can push your baby stroller to beautiful Fort Mason just across the street or jog along the biking trail that extends from Fort Mason, past the Marina and Crissy Field to the Presidio. Great location!

"San Francisco Playground with a view"
I took my 8 month old to the Alamo Square today and visited the playground. It's in great condition (must have been redone in the past few years). I put him in one of the baby swings. He loved being pushed gently, and I go to enjoy an incredible view of San Francisco. If your in the neighborhood and need a playground, this one's in great shape, so check it out.

"Fun for 80 seconds"
This was my first zip line ride, and my niece and I had a blast. I thought I would be scared, but the zip line looks very solid and secure and the harness is so large that I felt as comfortable as if I were sitting in a cushioned arm chair rather than hanging from a metal cable. There were a couple of older gray haired ladies riding the zip line in front of us which made us feel even more at ease. We were told that we would be moving 50 miles per hour along the longest zip line in the area, and it did feel fast; however, I guess 50 miles per hour sounds faster than it feels. The view of Lake Tahoe was great, the ride was fun, and it was nice to be on the top of the mountain in summer. Unfortunately, it's a little pricey. To take the zip line, you need to pay to ride the gondola from Stateline to the top of the mountain ($30), then you pay an additional $40 for the 80 second ride. I don't think Heavenly will lower the price any time soon. The day we rode it, the Flyer was sold out. It is fun, though, so if you have some money to burn and weigh over 75 pounds, consider riding the Heavenly Flyer.

*This review is based on a complimentary adventure with Heavenly Ski Resort. I received no other compensation besides this tour and the owner did not express any requirements that I express a particular point of view.

"Paddle Boat and Row Boat Fun"
It is so much fun to rent a row boat (or Paddle Boat) with the kids at Stow Lake. It takes us about an hour to paddle slowly around the the island. Along the way, we look for tiny turtles which can be found around the lake, and we feed ducks. Unfortunately, the water is very dirty. After returning the boat, we always grab an ice cream at the lakeside snack stand (same place where you rent the boats). Good time!

Plumas County Museum

"Small and Affordable"
The Plumas County Museum is worth a visit if you are spending any time in Quincy. The exhibits are mostly related to American Indians, mining, logging, the railroad, and settlers. Some of the larger exhibits are located outside and are interesting to view. Don't expect to spend a lot of time in this small museum, but the entrance fee is low, so even if you only spend an hour inside, it's worth it. It's a great way to learn about the area's settlement and growth. Entrance is $2 for an adult and $1 for a child.
