Sushi Deli 1 (Hillcrest)

"Affordable and Family Friendly Sushi"
Sushi Deli has two other locations in San Diego and this review is for the location in Mission Hills/Hillcrest area which is the most family friendly in my opinion. Last time my family and I came here for an early dinner at about 5pm there were mostly families in the restaurant. Staff is friendly and food comes out very quickly after placing the order, very important when you have little ones with you! Usually our bill is under 30 dollars for 2 adults and 1 child (4yrs old). They do not have a kids menu for there are lots of kid friendly options for the adventurous littler eaters. My daughter usually has california roll or we can share a bento box which has enough food for both of us to eat. Sharing a bento box is how my daughter discovered she liked Calamari. This place is a hipster hangout with fairly loud music playing throughout so if you are looking for a quite dinner this might not be the place. They offer a little plastic piece that helps kids connect the chopsticks for easier use and will also give kids water cups with lids if you ask. Overall a cheap but enjoyable sushi dinner for families

"Family friendly Japanese restaurant"
I have been here twice and both time I've had my daughter with me. The first time I came I tried ramen for the first time and loved it so much that I had to come back for more. The food has been excellent each time that I have been here, the first time I came I shared a Chicken Yakisoba dish with my daughter while my husband had the spicy pork ramen, I stole a few bites from his dish. My daughter loved the Yakisoba which was really flavorful and not at all spicy. The second time we came my sister, brother and mother joined us. Most of us had ramen while my daughter had croquet ,pork cutlet (strips) and a few bites from her grandmother's Yakisoba. The staff is really attentive and very family friendly. They were patient with us since it took us a little longer to eat since we were a large group. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone in the area who would like to try something new or if you love Japanese food. The restroom does not have changing tables is the only minus I have found so far. The restaurant is located within an Asian shopping center but can be easily seen from the street. There are plenty of other places to see and eat at in this general area, which is north from the Irvine Spectrum and south from South Coast Plaza.

Mission Bay Park
2688 East Mission Bay Drive,
San Diego,
California
I recently made the trip here to check out the playgrounds with my 3yr old daughter. On our trip here I did notice that there are several playgrounds within the park the best one I found was just past the Hilton Mission Bay, it seems to be the newest and cleanest by far. It felt really big and there were plenty of things for kids to do without getting bored. There is lots of sand, slides, swings, climbing equipment, boats, and cars! Loved this area and will be back soon I'm sure. There is plenty of parking around the park, we parked a half mile away and walked to the nicer playground and checked out the scenery along the way: birds, people watching, other playgrounds, kites. If you have ever driven on the 5 in San Diego and see a lot of kites in the air, that is Mission Bay park. Due to state budget cuts and other issues there are some restrooms that have closed but the restrooms near the nice playground were open and fairly clean.

Ferry Building Marketplace

"Good for walks, food, resting"
I worked in the Financial and would come here regularly during my lunch hour walks. I would even make the trek into the city on weekends with my daughter to walk around the farmer's market around the ferry building because they always had good food and restrooms! I never knew how important locating a public restroom was until moving to SF, this place has them and they are clean! I would definitely recommend coming here to do some shopping and walk along the embarcadero. You can grab some food and check out the beautiful bridge views.

City Delicatessen & Bakery
535 University Ave,
between 5th & 6th ,
San Diego,
California 92103
We decided to come here for brunch recently and were plesantly surprised at how attentive the staff was to our little one. They didn't make faces or flinch when my daughter engaged in typical 2 yr old behavior. The food itself is okay, but I would recommend it if you are looking for a good local deli near the downtown area.
