Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden
Hobbs Rd,
Greensboro,
North Carolina
"Great photo spot"
This a a beautiful garden nestled between Hobbs Rd and Holden Rd in Greensboro. There are lovely walking paths, a beautiful bridge, picnic areas, even a swing where you can sit an enjoy nature. A lot of families choose to do their family pictures here because it is so pretty. It's definitely a lovely place to walk and enjoy the flowers, though there isn't much to entertain little ones with.

The Bog Garden
Hobbs Rd,
Greensboro,
North Carolina
"It's a bog"
A real bog garden nestled within the hustle and bustle of Greensboro, The Bog Garden has great walking trails, tons of ducks, a few snakes on occasion (watch where you're going), and a beautiful waterfall. It's a great place for children to see nature, just don't feed the ducks. Also, it's rather secluded, so I wouldn't go by myself.

Great Smoky Mountains Railway | kids travel, kids activities
Great Smoky Mountains Railway
226 Everett Street,
Bryson City,
North Carolina 28713
"It was OK"
This is a fun thing to do if your child in interested in trains. However, the ride is a bit long for younger children and can become monotonous as you back-track to return to the station after a brief stop so you are seeing the same scenery twice. We'd definitely do it again, but there may be better train experiences out there.

Mast Farm Inn
2543 Broadstone Road,
Banner Elk, North Carolina
"Great getaway"
This is a great mountain getaway that has some really interesting accommodations - we slept in a converted grainery. However, it is probably more geared toward a romantic weekend than a family trip. Children aren't allowed to stay in the main inn, though we did thoroughly enjoy our more interesting lodgings. Also, the on-site restaurant features locally grown, organic meals that were incredibly delicious. My vote is to leave the kids at home and enjoy a special getaway if you want to go here.

Hemlock Inn
Galbraith Creek Rd,
Bryson City, North Carolina
"Fabulous Mountain Retreat"
When you think of a mountain getaway, Hemlock Inn should be your first thought. This family run bed and breakfast is the perfect place to stay. They offer family style breakfasts and dinners which are absolutely amazing. The only drawback is that the rooms aren't air conditioned, but it is cool enough at night that you'll never even notice.
