Natural Bridges State Beach
2531 West Cliff Drive,
Santa Cruz,
California 94060
We go to Natural Bridges for the tide pool experience. As you walk along rocks, there are pockets and crevices filled with sea urchins, mussels, barnacles, etc.
Our school goes there each year with fourth graders (9-10 years old), and each group has come back with great reviews.
This area is slippery and a bit dangerous for little ones who are active (~won't stick close to Mom or Dad) because you do need to maneuver carefully.

iFly Indoor Skydiving/Vertical Wind Tunnel
31310 Alvarado-Niles Road,
Union City,
California 94587
I found out about this location because a gymnastics instructor was promoting a special to her gymnasts. I took my two younger girls (then 8 and 10 years old) to iFly because they were having a Ladies' Night Special, so the cost was reduced by half.
There was a twenty minute orientation, then they helped each person suit up (they have flights in groups of 8-10 or so). They went as a group into the waiting area of the wind tunnel, and then each person had their turn to fly.
Depending on the experience of the flyer/diver, an instructor would be in the tunnel to give maximum to minimal help. They made certain that each person had the best experience possible.
My girls enjoyed their flight tremendously, but as it is very expensive (even at half price), this will only be repeated as a special treat (birthday, holiday, graduation, etc).

LeMans Karting Center
45957 Hotchkiss Street ,
Fremont,
California 94539
We brought three teens here for a special birthday outing. They did the program called Junior Driver's School (see website). The staff was very friendly and helpful.
They gave the kids the option of fully suiting up or just wearing the essentials (helmet and neckbrace), but as it was a special outing and we wanted photos, we (the moms) insisted that they suit up. They humored us.
The course is in a warehouse, with the majority of the doors open, with lots of (loud) fans blowing ~for ventilation. The karts themselves are rather noisy (so little children may not enjoy being spectators).
All three teens (girls-13, boy-14) enjoyed racing and would do it again. They commented that you do get shaken around quite a bit in the helmet ~ so if you're sensitive, you may get a headache. Occasionally karts will accidentally collide and you may get jostled a bit, but we had no injuries.
This activity is pricey, but they do have specials which cut the cost by up to half! A very fun activity for teens (and most dads seem to enjoy it too!).
