Doubletree by Hilton Berkeley Marina
200 Marina Blvd,
Berkeley, California
"Was being renovated, but we still loved it!"
I stayed here with my mom and two little ones for a night to visit my sis in Berkeley. I have to say, even though inconvenient renovations were being done, the rooms were clean and updated, and we had a nice Marina view! The kids loved it, and I did not mind the foghorn many speak of. Was kind of cool to hear in the night. You are kind of removed from the main strip of restaurants and shops in Emeryville (not walking distance) but the restaurant downstairs was very tasty and reasonable, and accomodated my kids nicely. I love the promenade shops in Emeryville (Bay St) and Ikea, so it was a nice, clean, safe location for me and my family. Plus, I got it for $60 on Priceline!

The Sterling Hotel
1300 H St,
Sacramento, California
"Sister hotel of Vizcaya, not as bad but close..."
I would skip this location for a hotel. Not as run down as the Vizcaya, but it certainly is nothing great for what you pay. Feels creepy, like haunted old mansion. I would rather get a 4* hotel on priceline like Sheraton Grand or Hyatt for $80-100 than stay here at full price. Not really a kid-oriented place, and definitely not exciting or fun for kids to go to like many "big" hotels. The walls are thin and it would make most parents uncomfortable to have their kid crying at night or acting up--or just being kids.

"Older hotel in need of renovation and a little love!"
We stayed here for a wedding, and it certainly was a nice little venue for that purpose, but I did not enjoy staying at the hotel at all. I am not a fan of the B & B thing, and though this is supposedly a hotel, it has a distinct feel of staying in someone's house. We had our kids and it was just odd--old grandma's house feel. Rooms are literally like walking across the hall to your mom's room. Walls are thin, decor is old fashioned. Would have been better for just me and my husband (the jacuzzi tub was nice) but I am warning you, if you have small kids, don't stay here if you can avoid it.

Hyatt Regency Sacramento
1209 L St,
Sacramento, California
"Great location, really liked this hotel with the kids!"
You are smack across the street from the Capitol if you stay here, and it sure is a majestic sight to walk a few feet to see the big white dome:) This hotel is nice, but very standard cookie cutter. Worked for what we were using it for, was clean, and close to everything we needed too. Just about a 3 minute drive to the downtown K Street Mall, probably 7 minutes from Old Sac or 10-15 to get to Arden Fair Mall. Try Burgers & Brew just a little out of downtown on R or S streets....delicious burgers and sandwiches with lots of beer (very casual) and a yogurt shop right next door!

Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay
Two Portola Plaza,
Monterey, California
"Not the cheapest, but amazing location!! Fantastic experience. "
The location of this hotel is amazing, right on the water (not beach, water) and near the wharf. We got there at night, and had no idea of our view until the AM. When we woke, we opened the shutters and had the most fantastic view of the bay, it was serene and just breathtaking. I loved every minute of our quick stay and cannot wait to return. So convenient and nicely kept, very clean and the room service was tasty! Definitely worth if you can splurge. Have seen it on Priceline for $80-90 or so--worth a shot!
