Cambria Suites Green Bay
1011 Tony Canadeo Run,
Green Bay, Wisconsin
"Cambria Suites is very luxurious!"
We stayed at the Cambria Suites last week on our way home from the Mayo clinic. We arrived rather late and it was so wonderful to come into a nice clean room that was absolutely luxurious and comfortable! The rooms are big and very well decorated and everything was super comfortable. We had plenty of room for 6 people. The sofa bed was in it's own area separate from the 2 beds and had it's own TV so the 2 little ones could sleep there and watch their favorite cartoons in the morning while we slept in a little. There is a microwave and a very nice size fridge in each room with a separate sink for making your coffee and tea and washing the little one's sippy cups so you didn't have to do it in the bathroom!!
The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful! They even called after we got into our room to make sure we were happy with our room and to see if we needed anything. I did not run into a single staff member who didn't go out of their way to be sure we were happy! My husband and I had gone out after we got the kids their dinner and left our 17 year old in charge for a little while, while we gone, our 8 year old spiked a fever and they let my daughter charge Tylenol to our room so we didn't have to run back from our dinner. I really appreciated that!
Unfortunately between getting in late and our daughter getting sick, we didn't get to use the pool at all but we had gone down and checked it out planning to use it in the morning and it was very clean and the water felt so nice and warm. They had nice big fluffy towels at the pool, none of those flimsy little "pool towels"! The only down side to their pool is it is very small and the hot tub's capacity is only 5 people.
I hope we will get to come back again soon and that the kids get to use the pool next time!

Ramada Plaza Hotel Green Bay
2750 Ramada Way,
Green Bay, Wisconsin
"Great pool and water slides for the kids!"
We stayed at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Green Bay February 12 and I have very mixed reviews of this place. The hotel was clean, the rooms were nice, had a fridge and microwave in the room, the pool area was wonderful, it was nice and warm and the pool was fantastic with fun water slides and the hot tub was nice and hot and the regular pool was nice and warm. There was a nice climber with slides for children who were not into the water thing. I loved that they had a kiddy pool are with water that was around 10 inches deep at the deepest point and they could walk into slowly since it was a gradual deepening. Worked great for my 2 year old to get used to the water so he would go into the big pool later.
But, they had the place fully booked AND had 3 HUGE parties scheduled (20-30 people per party) besides! Most of the afternoon, we could not even get a chair because everything was pushed together with reserved for party signs on them and the people from the parties had the pool area completely filled. Most of the party goers did not have wrist bands for the water slides yet they were being allowed to use them where their rules say you have to have a wrist band (given free to every registered guest) to use the slides. They had no clean towels at the pool and did not even seem to be attempting to resolve the problem because no one was picking up the wet towels that were all over the floor (obviously no longer in use) or bringing in fresh towels and when I asked, they would just say well we have already gone through over 300 towels today like that makes it okay that they didn't have any towels in the pool area. I did not see them bring in clean towels until 11:00 on Sunday morning and we stayed in the pool area till around 8:00 Saturday evening and were back in the pool soon after they opened up in the morning and still no towels! The most aggravating part of this is we had debated between Ramada and The Tundra Lodge and they assured us that they only allow their hotel guests to use their pool which was clearly not true! Their pool area is not big enough to accommodate all their guests plus 3 large parties, Tundra's actually is so we would have been better off there.
Breakfast... don't waste your money on their breakfast! I was told when we made our reservation that it was included. When I arrived, I was told no, it is $10 per person! The front desk person gave us a discount because of the confusion of $10 for breakfast coupons for the family and it seriously was not even worth that! Our tickets said we could choose 2 eggs any style with toast, or pancakes, or french toast plus bacon or sausage. We go down there to a buffet of cold slimy scrambled eggs, oat meal, cold hash browns, under cooked (and cold) bacon and sausage, and cold french toast. I couldn't figure out why my 2 year old barely touched his chocolate milk (his favorite), brought it back to our room and stuck it in the fridge figuring he would want it later, he still would not drink it, checked and it was sour milk!!
Next time we want to go for a swimming pool vacation in Green Bay, I don't know that we will bother with the Ramada, if I am going to pay extra for a place with a nicer pool area with water slides, I want my kids to have the space to enjoy them!

Mission Point Resort
6633 Main Street,
Mackinac Island, Michigan
"Beautiful old place but not really child friendly"
We stayed at the Mission Point Resort and while it was a very beautiful historic hotel, I didn't really feel it was the best choice for families with young children. It is farther out of the way so every time you went to to the main attraction areas you had to either take a taxi (horse drawn carriage) or walk over a mile. The rooms were very small and things like the shower and toilets seemed to be constantly having troubles and not draining properly. There was mold in several places of the bathrooms and even the rooms smelled very musty and moldy. No pool, but, there are a lot of real fire places that are lit in the evenings, there was a bon fire one night we were there, and there are a lots of grounds for kids to run around on and right by the beach if you like to play in the water.
I would definitely recommend taking your kids to Mackinac Island, it is a wonderful experience, but find a place closer to all the fun unless your kids are really good walkers or you don't mind spending a lot of money for taxi rides cause they are not cheap.

AMERICINN APPLETON
3900 North Gateway Drive,
Appleton, Wisconsin
I love the pool at the Americinn, one of our favorites for the kids! They have a huge water slide that my kids love going down and the pool has multiple sections so you can get away from a kid who doesn't play nice with others if you need to. The only thing you need to watch out for is the water slide has limited hours of operation so make sure that they will have it open during your stay and that you plan your other activities around those hours if you plan to use it. The rooms are nice and clean, not huge but big enough to be comfortable. I like that they have breakfast in the morning so we can have the kids eat something and then let them go swimming before we get ready to go out for the day. Kids love making their own waffles here! Also note that it is not right in Appleton's main shopping area, it is a little bit out of the way but it is worth the couple extra miles to get here.

SpringHill Suites by Marriott Rchester-Mayo Clinic/St Mary's
1125 2nd St Sw,
Rochester, Minnesota
"nice super clean rooms, pool too small."
I am writing this from the SpringHill Suites and I have to say this is one of the cleanest rooms I have ever stayed in for a hotel. The room is really big with 2 beds and a living room area with a sleeper sofa, a chair, coffee table, TV, a desk with free internet and a wet bar with a fridge, coffee pot and microwave. I would give the rooms by themselves a 5*.
The down side of this place is that the pool is extremely tiny! If you are the only family in the pool area, you could have a great time, but if there is anyone else in there, you are not going to be able to really let loose and just have fun. I have seen larger pools in people's back yards.
We didn't get to try the breakfast this morning since we had to get on the shuttle over to Mayo at 6:20 and the breakfast didn't start till 6:30 but they do have good coffee 24 hours a day and when we got back from our appointments, they had warm fresh cookies waiting at the front desk for you to grab. You would think, considering they cater to Mayo patients, they would start the breakfast before the first shuttle goes out so the people who need to be there early could have a quick breakfast before they leave.
Added info... We were able to have breakfast the other days of our stay and it was a very good breakfast with a variety of items to choose from.
