Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Flying from Minneapolis to Detroit with our then 18 month old son. We were THOSE PEOPLE on the plane. He cried and cried and cried. He finally gave out, slept through our layover in Detroit, and didn't wake up until we were almost at our destination airport.

Hampton Inn and Suites - SouthPark at Phillips Place
6700 Phillips Place Ct,
Charlotte, North Carolina
"We love it here!"
We go to Charlotte several times a year. Although it's not that far from here, we still like to stay the night every now and then.

We like Hampton Inns, and we chose this one since it was really close to Southpark Mall, as we tend to visit shops and restaurants in south Charlotte. I was shocked to see the prices weren't bad considering how nice the pics looked.

Once we got there, I wasn't disappointed! It's the nicest Hampton Inn I've ever stayed in. And one of our favorite features is the TV in the bathroom mirror. It disappears when it's not on, too! What kid (or adult for that matter) wouldn't find that cool!! It even has a pretty decent pool area for an in town hotel.

This is OUR place to stay in Charlotte!!

Hampton Inn & Suites National Harbor - Alexandria Area | kids travel, kids activities
Hampton Inn & Suites National Harbor - Alexandria Area

"Good choice"
We stayed here in November 2008. We go to DC quite often, but since we were going to be there during the week, staying in the city was just not an economical option this time. We looked outside of the city, and we found National Harbor!

National Harbor is a neat area that's still under construction. The National Children's Museum will be opening here, and Disney's even said they're moving in. There are restaurants and shops, and you're right on the Potomac. You can even take a boat in to the city or to Mt. Vernon during the warmer months.

This Hampton Inn is nicer than average. We originally booked a standard room, but it just felt too small, and we were able to upgrade at no extra fee to a "suite," which basically was just the size of two standard rooms and had a sitting area.

The breakfast was better than a typical Hampton Inn breakfast as it was a hot breakfast, and not just the packages you warm up in the microwave.

The hotel is not directly on the water, and it sits perpendicular, so no rooms are directly waterfront.

"Surprisingly wonderful"
I never thought we'd stay here, but I'm so glad that we did!

We stayed here in August 2009 with a 6 year old and 2 year old. Our room was in the Tower on the Bay Lake side. The rooms were renovated a few years ago - no more purple and orange! It's all very modern and lovely. My husband absolutely loved our room. The sinks are square, and there's a separate toilet area! That's great when you're trying to get your family out the door. We were glad we didn't pay the extra to stay on the Magic Kingdom side. While it would have been neat to see the park, there's also a huge parking lot. On the Bay Lake side, you can see the pool and Bay Lake. It was a very beautiful and dynamic view!

Since we stayed in the Tower, we were super close to everything. We just walked out of our room and down the eleveator, and there we were at the Monorail, gift shops, quick service and Chef Mickey's. We had a 7:35 ADR for Chef Mickey's on our first full day, and it was soooo nice to be right there and not stress about getting up super early. Plus, with quick service in the same building, it was super nice to get off the Monorail, grab a drink then head to the room. Took no time at all!

Staying here was actually our 6 year old's choice! He wanted to stay in the hotel with the Monorail in the middle.

We also had a good experience with Cast Members. They were all very nice and courteous. Our daughter fell and busted her lip in the lobby on our way to the bus stop area, and one of the CMs ran over, went and got an ice back and even offered to call paramedics (okay, a bit overkill on a busted lip!). But we truly appreciated her concern. She really was worried about our girl!

Disney's Polynesian Resort | kids travel, kids activities
Disney's Polynesian Resort
1600 Seven Seas Drive,
Lake Buena Vista, Florida
"So beautiful"
We stayed five nights in the Polynesian during the spring of 2008 with a then 5 year old boy and 10 month old girl. We had been to Disney before (it was my 13th trip!), so I knew a lot about what to expect. Since we had such a young one this time, we wanted to stay on the Monorail. So, we chose the Polynesian, even after my DH spent the last trip saying how much he didn't want to ever stay at the Poly!

The Polynesian is absolutely beautiful. The theming is fantastic! We stayed in Tahiti, ground floor, garden view. While I wasn't initially happy about the ground floor, our patio was totally surrounded by greenery, which really made it private and more tropical feeling. Our room was HUGE, and it had been recently remodeled.

Since we were in the Tahiti building, it was super close to walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) to hop on the Monorail to either the MK or Epcot. But, that also meant that we were further away from the main Poly building, the Great Ceremonial House. There's not only a Monorail stop there, but also all of the resort restaurants, gift shops, etc. This meant if we wanted to use our refillable mugs or grab a snack, it was about a 20 minute round trip experience. And if it was raining, then we had to do it in the rain!

Our son loved the pool. It has a volcano theme, and a fun slide. It's also got a zero entry in. There's also a quiet pool for those looking for a bit less excitement.

DUNES VILLAGE RESORT | kids travel, kids activities
DUNES VILLAGE RESORT
5300 N. Ocean Blvd.,
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
"Loved it! We'll be back!"
While I used to go to Myrtle quite a bit growing up, we just haven't been much in the past several years. So, this past spring, we finally decided to go. After a lot of Internet searching, we found Dunes Village. I'm so glad we did!! We had a wonderful one bedroom condo - the bedroom had 2 queen beds, a full kitchen, huge bathroom with jetted tub, living room and dining area, plus a Murphy bed and fold out sofa if we really needed it! We spent a lot of time in the two indoor waterparks - there's one under each of the two buildings that make up the resort. One has larger slides, while the other caters to a quieter, younger crowd. Both of our kids loved it!

The beach area is pretty quiet because while it's on Ocean Blvd., it's not in the main downtown district. It's in a pretty safe area, and it's well maintained and clean. The parking deck is across the street. If you don't feel like playing chicken with the cars, you can always take a golf cart across the street.
