The Village of Baytowne Wharf
9300 Emerald Coast Pkwy W,
Destin,
Florida 32550
"Village with something for everyone!"
We always drive over to this village when we stay at Seaside. There is something to satisfy everyone here. Plenty of restaurants, an ice cream shop, Starbucks (our 17 year old likes to hang out, surf the net, and have a coffee-all away from the parental units!), apparel shops, toy store (my 3 year old loves to go in and pick out a few trucks and cars), fountains, and nightlife. You can stroll in the village or take a little bridge over to the yachts and dream a little dream of living on a boat! Or maybe that's just me! If you are in the area, this is a nice excursion away from the beach.

Kentuck Festival
503 Main Avenue,
Northport,
Alabama 35476
"Art Festival isn't as good as it used to be"
I have attended Kentuck for about 25 years and have slowly seen it change- and not for the good. I used to love going with my Mom. There would be a wide variety of art for sale-enough to satisfy anyone's taste. But now the art is so strange that I think that it would only satisfy certain people. I suppose that more people know about it now and it's grown. Which means that parking is difficult. But if you like eclectic southern art, perhaps you should check it out. Even if it's only once. If you bring your kids along, they will love checking out the funnel cake and the face-painting! And of course, dancing when the live music plays. My 3 year old can't help dancing no matter who is watching!

Seaside Cottages
P.O. Box 4730,
Seaside, Florida
We have visited lots of locations for our summer vacations, but it took one look at Seaside for us to know we would be here every year. The whole village is made up of sherbet colored cottages, some small and some quite large, but all are charming. We stay in a different one each year to keep things spicy, but we have never been disappointed. Once you are settled in, you'll want to go and rent a bicycle for everyone in the family. You may not need your car again the whole time you are there. You ride everywhere. The beach is not far from any of the cottages and there are umbrellas available for rent. The sand is clean and white and perfect for castles! At night, they have events like outdoor plays or movies on the lawn which is a lot of fun for the kids. I wish I could live here.

Imaginarium Children's Adventure Museum
1111 Laurel Street,
Nashville,
Tennessee
"Great fun for all ages!"
My son and I went to this museum while visiting my sister and we had a blast. He was just two and really enjoyed himself. There is a huge table with an electric train set that you could watch for hours and still miss some details. There are rooms for the younger kids to feel different things. There are games and some science exhibits for the older kids. There is a real ambulance that you can get into and look around and even turn the siren on. He loved that! I didn't care too much for the machine that showed what I was going to look like when I got old (Ha!!). No, really, it was great fun!!

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center
2299 CR 2008 (Front Gate),
Glen Rose,
Texas 76043
Even before I had kids I visited this with my nieces. Fossil Rim is 1700 acres of open space where animals can roam free. You ride in your own car and can listen on a CD for the tour. Kids of any age will love this. We especially liked feeding the ostriches even though it was a weird sensation. If you are in the area, it's worth your time to visit this beautiful wildlife center.
