Jack London Square
Broadway and Embarcadero,
Oakland,
California 94607
"Not much to do for toddlers"
We went to Jack London Square with our two toddlers and were a little disappointed with how quiet it was. There wasn't much going on and most of the side stores were closed or out of business probably because of the current recession. It was a little sad to see. We were hoping to buy the kids icecream, popcorn or cotton candy (or anything really to munch on) and there weren't any concession stands (we would have to go out of the square and out on to the main busy street which we didn't want to do with little ones). It's a nice place to take a stroll along the boardwalk, ride a boat, or eat at a fancy restaurant (which isn't easy with toddlers), but other than that there isn't much else for kids. It is a beautiful spot with so much potential so hopefully it will thrive again soon.

Oakland Zoo
9777 Golf Links Road,
Oakland,
California 94605
"Great Zoo for Toddlers!"
The Oakland Zoo is a great introduction to toddlers about animals, birds and wildlife. I took my two toddler boys to the zoo for the first time and they were amazed to see their stories about giraffes, elephants, camels, zebras, lions and alligators come to life. This is not a huge zoo but it has all of the main animals you can think of - it's just the right size for little ones who can get tired easily. It takes about 2 hours to go around the whole park. In addition to the zoo aspect of the park, there is a barnyard where kids can pet farm animals, feed them and even comb their hair. If you want to take a tour around the park you can either take a sky ride or a a train ride or both!
Prices are pretty reasonable with free admission for children under 2, 2-14 pay $8.50 and 15 and over pay $12.50. Parking is an additional $7/car. There are group discounts and if you plan to go often it's best to get a season pass for $95 for 2 adults and 4 kids.

Riverfront Park
Howard & Riverside,
Spokane,
Washington
"Fun for the whole family!"
I grew up in Spokane and visited this park over and over again as a child. Now, as an adult, it's fun to come back with my own two toddlers and show them all the fun I had as a kid. Riverfront Park is in the heart of downtown Spokane with the Spokane River flowing at one side. It has something for everyone in the family including hiking trails, picnic sites, beautiful gardens, an IMAX theater, a carousel ride and other amusement rides, gondola rides and a train that takes you on a tour around the park. My kids loved the giant red Radio Flyer Wagon in the middle of the park and thought that the Garbage Goat that actually eats and recycles garbage was absolutely hilarious.
The park is home to several annual events including Pig Out in the Park, Bloomsday, 4th of July fireworks and so much more. This is a must-see if you visit Spokane!

Ortega Park

Sunnyvale,
California 94089
"A little bit of everything at Ortega Park!"
This park has so much space for kids to run around and just play. There are plenty of tables and benches for picnicking and ample parking.
The highlights of the park include:
- Two play areas: one for toddlers and one for older kids
- A rock climbing wall - it's fun to see how adventurous your child can get!
- A water fountain where kids can run around and get squirted - great for hot summer days!
- Baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts
- Beautiful gazebo
My toddler boys loved this park and didn't want to leave!
