"Don't Have a Birthday Party There!!"
We had our son's 10th. birthday party at Legoland, FL and it was a terrible disappointment!!
I had been sent a confirmation email for the party from Legoland. In the very first sentence, it stated that there was limited room inside their birthday "tents". I was a little surprised to read this since the "Ultimate Birthday Party" I had booked was supposed to be in a private party room... I made a note to ask about this and the day before birthday party , I called to take care of last minute details. The birthday rep., Shannon Crawford, had terrible people skills. When I inquired if we would be in a private room or in a tent, her answer to me was, "Where would you get an idea like that from? We don't even own tents!!" I explained about the email and asked her for her email address so that she would be able to see what I was talking about. She responded with the same bad attitude to most of my questions. The assistance she provided was so poor and her overall tone was so rude, when we ended our phone call, I called Legoland back. I asked to speak to a manager. I requested that she not interface with my guests at my party.
When we arrived at the front gate, we picked up our tickets and the attendant explained that we should get to our party room about 15 min. before our scheduled 1:00 time slot. We were were given general directions of the birthday party room's location.
As it got closer to the party time, we started asking park employees where the birthday party room was. No one we spoke to knew where the birthday party room was. After our third failed attempt, we were lucky to find a very helpful employee with a radio, Jeffrey. Finally- a professional employee who took the time to help us. He contacted a manger thru his radio for us. The person who he spoke with first told him that we were scheduled to have our party at 11:00. Wow! I got so stressed out!! I explained to him that we had the 1:00 time slot. The manager told him that they would find out for us and called back about 4 or 5 minutes later and said that yes, we did indeed have our party scheduled for the 1:00 and we were finally given the correct directions to find the party room (which is located inside the Market restaurant in a private room). Jeffrey told us that the manager would send a character to our party to make up for all of the confusion.
The party room was clean and very nicely decorated, I was very pleased when we saw it. The young lady that was our server, Mylicia, was very sweet and tried very hard to take care of all of our guests. When I asked her about the character appearance, she explained to me that they had taken a break and would not be back until 3:00, well after our party would be over. I asked her if she would be able to find someone for us and that it didn't matter who it was. She came back in about ten minutes and told me that someone would be coming. "Max" , a life-size mini-figure, came with professional park photographers. He stayed for about ten minutes- which gave all of the kids the chance to take a picture, so that worked out very nicely, in the end.
We were served salad and personal pan pizzas, which were tasty and good sized-portions. I didn't really like the way the "unlimited" drinks were served. Everyone was given HUGE drink cups (including our 3 1/2 year old guest) and we had to go out of our party room to the cafeteria to serve our own drinks or if we wanted a refill. At one point, one of the boys left for a refill and didn't tell anyone he was going to the cafeteria, so it was a tense 2 or 3 mins until we found him...
When the cake was brought out- it wasn't a cake which would feed my 21 guests but 2 VERY small cakes, not at all what is advertised when you book your party. They bring the cake out in a black cart- which didn't make for very nice pictures at all. Our server then explained that they were all out of candles. I didn't want to make a big deal about this so that my son wouldn't catch on but I was very upset about this whole thing , especially when all the guests where asking where the candles where. So when it was time to sing happy birthday to my son, there was NO CANDLE FOR HIM TO BLOW OUT!! Very disappointing for our little guy!! This was unbelievable!!
Overall, we spent over $1000 ($57 plus tax pp) for the "Ultimate Birthday Party" which in the end was disappointing. If you want a stress-free party, that runs very smoothly, this is not the place for you at all. Not to mention the whole cake thing-which was completely unacceptable, in my opinion!
Oh- my little guy did get to blow out his birthday candle - we got him a cake that night and sang him "Happy Birthday" as he blew out his candles at home...
