Lincoln Memorial | kids travel, kids activities
Lincoln Memorial
West side of The Mall,
Washington,
District of Columbia
"A Palacial Monument"
This monument is monolithic. If Abraham Lincoln were to see it, I think he'd be embarrassed by how pretentious it is. He was such a humble guy. I think he'd have been happier if they'd planted a tree in honor of him on the national mall instead of building such a big pile of marble. Let's face it, the monument makes us as a country, without a wealthy aristocracy to patronize the arts, look good. It's an ego trip.

Hill Aerospace Museum

Roy,
Utah 84056-5842
"Flying High"
The Aerospace museum is a great family-friendly museum. They have outdoor displays that you can climb up into. Inside there are multiple hangars with all kinds of historic aircraft. At the back there is a play area with flight-related experiments, toys and even a cockpit to sit in. My kids liked all the toys in the gift shop so you might want to skip that if you are on a budget!

American West Heritage Center | kids travel, kids activities
American West Heritage Center
4025 S. Hwy 89-91,
Wellsville,
Utah
"Pioneer Heritage Site"
This is an outdoor museum with lots of living history. The Center has a blacksmith shop, old cabins and lots of farm animals. At certain times of year they host events with volunteers dressed up as pioneers who can answer questions about various old-fashioned crafts like candle making, spinning, outdoor cooking and animal husbandry. Its a great place for kids to learn about the past.

"Great Waterskiing"
This reservoir attracts lots of families for a weekend of fishing, boating and water skiing. There aren't a lot of amenities so you will need to plan on roughing it. The nearest town is Vernal, Utah. They do have a visitors center, boat docks and camping areas. It's a great way to beat the heat and get away from city life.

Heber Valley Railroad | kids travel, kids activities
Heber Valley Railroad
450 South 600 West,
Heber City,
Utah 84032
"Old Time Railroad"
This train runs down and back in the mountains near Heber Utah. The staff dresses up and gets everyone seated. Sometimes there are staged train robberies and other antics to entertain young riders. The views from the windows are gorgeous but the ticket to ride is also steep. Its a fun excursion for those who love all thing Thomas and Trains.
