Each summer, the campgrounds in Yosemite fill up quickly with families and tourists from all over the world. Being able to sleep under the pine trees with the giant cliffs of Half Dome and Glacier Point right above one's campfire is a perfect treat for parents and kids!
Reservations are required year-round for campsites in Yosemite Valley and they are hard to get. Check http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/camping.htm for up-to-the-minute details. But here's the basics: Reservations are available up to 5 months in advance on the 15th of each month at 7 am PST. Reservations fill up at www.recreation.gov within the first 5 minutes of opening so you must be ready to click to reserve at 7:00 sharp on the day that the spots open up. See website for specifics.
