About Me & My Family

We are a family of 5. We love to travel and to see new things. We look for a educational experience in everything we do and my we do a lot. Our kids are so used to being on the go that they have tremendous stamina. We try to plan 2 large trips every year and supplement them with weekend get-aways, staycations and a day jaunt now and again. Our kids are always wondering what the next spot will be.

Favorite Vacation Memory
Watching the kids lug their car seats through the airport on their first plane ride.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
My youngest got sick with the stomach bug at 4 am in the morning 1 hour before our plane ride to get to St' John USVI. We had to make it through 2 plane legs, 1 long taxi ride, a ferry ride and a 45 minute rental car ride to our villa with her being sick!!!

"Old fashioned park zoo"
We love to go to the Beardsley Park zoo in the spring before it gets to hot and busy. It is a pleasant stroll through the exhibits along with a carousel and small botanical gardens. The kids enjoy the rainforest exhibit with Tamarins and an Ocelot. They also enjoy the tigers and farm area. Their favorite by far are the very amusing and interactive otters and the prairie dogs. The zoo also hosts birthday parties at the carousel, There is a small cafe on site with the usual kid friendly options, as well as the Peacock cafe with the requisite wandering peacocks all around. The staff are friendly and like to give info about the animals. The zoo has a membership deal which is the cost of 2 visits for 2 adults and up to 6 kids. We ended up purchasing this year so that we can visit again and use the membership for reciprocal agreements to facilities in other states. There are areas of the zoo that are slightly run down, but nothing that would detract from your visit!!!

"Introduction to the Masters"
We have been a few times without the kids but decided to bring them this past weekend. They have been intoduced to art through books and other museums, but here they were able to view and compare up close, Rembrandts, Picassos, Dalis,Pollacks, Calders and many more. The museum provides a bilingual scavenger hunt form for animals and the kids realy enjoyed this....looking at each work intently for the animals listed. The second floor was unfortunately closed so they were now able to complete the hunt...but we will be back. There is a great gift shop with a book about a little girls visit to the Wadsworth and all of the great art she viewed. We might spring for it next visit. There really is no reason not to take the kids. Children 12 and under are FREE!!!!
