Where to eat this Mother's Day in Southern Oregon

Need ideas as to where to take your mother this May? Or maybe you need ideas to slip your husband? Southern Oregon offers fabulous fare in spring sunshine (if it stops raining, that is) at the following five restaurants that are sure to please even the pickiest mother:

175 E. California Street
Jacksonville, Oregon

"Enjoy Sunday brunch at the Jacksonville Inn"
The fare at the decidedly upscale Jacksonville Inn is always delicious, but never more so than during their famous Sunday brunch. Fancy enough to justify an adults-only event, the inn still offers a casual enough air that (well behaved) kids will be welcomed. If they get squirmy, there's plenty to see along Jacksonville's main drag if they need a walk in the May sunshine.

241 Hargadine Street
Ashland, Oregon

"Dig into Double Happiness at Dragonfly!"
My favorite restaurant in a city of fine restaurants, Dragonfly offers gourmet Asian/Latin fusion cuisine in a fun, friendly setting. Sit outside on their garden patio in nice weather, or tucked away inside during rain. Bring the kids: they'll love the unique choices (especially the banana pancakes and hot chocolate) and you'll love eating somewhere other than McDonalds for a change.

59 North Main Street
Ashland, Oregon

"Order breakfast at Munchies, then hit the park"
Munchies, located right on the plaza by Ashland's Lithia Park, offers delicious fare of the comfort food variety: homemade mac and cheese, burritos as big as your head, full breakfasts, and the like. Kids love it, parents love it, and you can also order delicious baked goods from their bakery to go. Afterward, hit the park to enjoy the spring blooms, extensive play area for the kids, and long walking trails.

"Make everyone happy with burgers and shakes"
Want to make everyone happy on Mother's Day? (What mother doesn't?) Bring the whole family to Jasper's, located on Jacksonville's main drag in a cute historic building. You'll eat the best (and most creative) burgers, real fries (or sweet potato fries), and hand-scooped shakes. Burn it all off with a walk around Jacksonville or stop at the park then toy store.

1475 Kubli Road
Grants Pass, Oregon

"Sip a sample (or two) at Troon"
Nestled in the scenic Applegate Valley (just a few short miles from either Medford or Grants Pass), Troon isn't a stuffy or elitist vineyard by any definition. Light and airy, its tasting room overlooks the vineyard and valley below, and it hosts numerous family-oriented events throughout the year, including a full spread of food plus egg hunt for the kids at Easter. For Mother's Day, take the drive out with the family, let Dad entertain the kids in Troon's extensive gardens and lawn areas, and enjoy yourself! Afterward, stop along the Rogue for a family photo!
