About Me & My Family

Three little girls run amuck in this house, so there are days when we just HAVE to get out and get going somewhere. We love zoos, parks, beaches, and traveling around to visit friends and family. We enjoy finding awesome deals for places that are kid friendly. Taking our three girls with us as we travel around the country is by far our most favorite thing to do.

A Place We'd Love To Visit
France!!
Favorite Vacation Memory
After a long day of sledding and climbing through the hills in Lake Tahoe, our family sat in front of the fireplace in our hotel and roasted marshmallows. The soft glow on my girl's faces, mixed with their hazy, tired eyes made the warmth of the fire mean so much more.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Not realizing how crowded the city bus would be with my girls in San Francisco!! We had to make 4 connections and fold and collapse the stroller at each stop. It was back-breaking, frustrating and a LONG DAY!

"Excellent food, convenience and quality"
Located inside the Waterfront Beach Resort is the relaxed and upscale Shades Restaurant.  The restaurant features both an indoor and outdoor patio section, both overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean.  Inspired by the natural coastal surroundings, the food at Shades is full of fresh, high quality natural ingredients and offers a unique yet approachable menu.  Shades is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and offers a Sunday champagne brunch as well as seasonal and special event menus.  Weekend evenings are a bit more adult focused with Shades PM offering live entertainment and bar specials.

My family had the privilege of dining at Shades for breakfast.  We ate on the patio in hopes of experiencing more of the salty sea air while dining.  The patio was extremely pleasant, even though it was a little chilly that morning, thanks to overhead heaters and a beautiful tile fire pit.
After perusing the menu, we decided to eat the American Breakfast Buffet in order to get a full sampling of the menu offering at Shades.  We enjoyed freshly cooked to order omelets and French toast (ordered from our table), country potatoes with a wonderfully fresh and tasty salsa, bacon, sausage, and a huge selection of pastries, breads, cereals and fresh squeezed juices.  I am not typically a fan of juice, but found the fresh squeezed orange juice to be the best I have tasted in years.

A kids menu is available featuring all of the typical breakfast choices, but our server pointed out that the pricing makes it easiest for kids to eat the buffet and enjoy an unlimited quantity of their favorites for one low price.  My kids LOVE the idea of a buffet; it is truly a picky eaters dream come true.

One of the best features of the buffet, in addition to the fantastic food, was the level of service assisting with our meal that made it so much easier on mom and dad getting food for three little ones.  Sometimes the idea of a buffet can seem exhausting to me, but the quick and attentive servers anticipated our needs way in advance of needing to get up one more time to grab a particular item.

The lunch and dinner menu offerings range from fresh salads and unique burgers to Kobi steak, Salmon and a great selection of fine cheeses, sophisticated appetizers and charcuterie selections, which are specialty meats.

Bottom Line:  Shades offers fantastic quality food coupled with outstanding service and attention to detail.
