About Me & My Family

We are a travel obsessed, outdoor loving, family of four living in Orange County, CA. I have five year old twins (a boy and a girl) and I try my best to expose them to as many new experiences as possible. We love hiking, beaches, and National Parks but we also enjoy some time by the pool at big resorts. I serve as editor of The Talking Trekaroo, Trekaroo's blog.
Our Family's Travel Personality
adventurous, curious, independent, energetic, spontaneous, scheduled
We Just Got Back From
The new Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii! A-mazing.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Any National Park
A Place We'd Love To Visit
Any National Park
Favorite Vacation Memory
Climbing up the side of a mountain to Inspiration Point at Grand Teton National Park with my then two year old twins. It was something nobody thought our children could do and the view fro the top was incredible.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Forgetting the portable dvd player on the way home from Yosemite National Park after exploring the park all day. Tired and cranky children with no source of entertainment make for a very loud car.

Top rides and attractions for teens at Disneyland Resort

Your teen may think they are too cool for those "baby rides" at the Disneyland Resort but we are here to tell you there is plenty for teens to get excited at Disneyland and California Adventure!

Grizzly River Run takes riders on a very wet ride around a recreated California mountain. Perfect for warm summer days. Be sure to bring a change of clothes!

Yes, it may look like just another ferris wheel but trust me, it is not! There are two options for this ride. The first one takes riders on the traditional ferris wheel ride, but the second features swinging carts that feel like they are about to launch off into oblivion. This one is definitely not for people terrified of heights.

Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirate's life for me! This ride is a Disney classic and with the popularity of today's Pirates of the Caribbean movies, it is popular with visitors of all ages. have your teens keep an eye out for the very realistic Johnny Depp animatronics.

When you first get on the ride, it may appear like just another silly kiddie ride with singing animals. But this one is different- it has one death defying drop!

This ride received a major overhaul in 2011 and now it is a thrilling 3D adventure with multiple scenarios to keep your kids coming back for more again and again.

"3-D adventures and fun, but not for people who easily get motion sick"
I knew going on this ride would probably make me sick. In the past, motion simulators have made me queasy, but I really wanted to check out the new ride, especially since it is now in 3D! Sure enough, I was nauseated for a couple hours after the ride (but playground swings make me queasy)  but it was COMPLETELY worth it.

The ride uses the same motion machine as the previous Star Tours, but the storylines include the more recent Star Wars movies (Episodes 1-3) and feature 54 possible scenarios. Plus, its all in 3D!

It was easy to get caught up in this ride. The effects were so realistic, I really felt like I was flying at light speed through the galaxy.  The ride definitely moves around quite a bit, but never felt jerky or uncomfortable. I didn't find the ride to be scary, but young children who don't like darkness or suspense might frighten a bit. I am confident that my four year old son would love it as well as my 36 year old husband and 12 year old niece. In other words, this ride appeals to most demographics.

One of the coolest things they have done with this ride is flash a picture of a spy on screen which happens to be one of the passengers on the simulator. They must take a picture of someone in line before hand. It is pretty fun to watch the kid picked squeal with delight when he sees his face on the Star Tours 3D screen.

Bottomline: I think its worth going on this ride at least once, even if you have motion sickness tendencies. It was that fun.

Disclosure: I rode this ride as a member of the media attending the grand opening. Disneyland did not ask that I express any particular opinion and all opinions are entirely my own.

Yes, it may appear like a kiddie ride. But if your teens love a little competition, this is right up their alley. This interactive ride has riders compete in various carnival games for points and the title of "best in car". Game on!

"My favorite CA Adventure ride"
I am addicted to this ride. Yes, the line can often be long, but there is a reason- it is so much fun!  Riders put on 3D glasses and play carnival games for points. The concept sounds simple but the 3D is very realistic and special added touches such as a spray of water when you pop a water balloon make the experience special.  The ride is good for all ages and has nothing scary or fast to worry about. If you have older children, consider avoiding the lines by taking advantage of single rider. Cast Members will give you passes to basically skip the line and act as seat fillers for parties with an odd number of people. This means you may not be able to sit next to a loved one but I since the ride is so interactive, I don't think you will miss out on anything by sitting next to a stranger.

Another ride that seems to be aimed at little ones but will keep the older kids entertained. This time, a laser gun is used to score points by hitting targets all over the ride. Plus, kids can email a picture of themselves shooting the targets along with their score to all their friends.

"Interactive and fun for all ages!"
My kids first rode this ride when they were infants and loved all the flashing lights and colors. Now they are almost 5 and love using the laser gun to shoot at all the targets and score points. I am super competitive and am always trying to beat my high scores. There have been some slight changes to the end of this ride after the most recent Toy Story movie so if you haven't ridden in a while, check it out again!

This ride is super scary, especially at night. The scene is set with a classic Twilight Zone scenario and as riders climb up the elevator in the Tower of Terror, they never now just when they might be dropped several stories! Another ride I find impossible not to scream during.
