Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Being in a vacation rental with all of our extended family for the holidays. 13 people in all. Was supposed to be a wonderful week of fun, but 10 out of 13 got struck with the stomach virus for a week straight. The lowlights can be summed up in: 4 trips to the ER, 2 IVs for our one year old nephew and a concussion from freeze tag for my brother in-law. What a start to the new year!

If you love the outdoors, but don't want to just hit up another beach with the kids, head over to one of these cool tide pools. Full of barnacles, anemones, fish, crabs and more, kids love discovering all that lives and breath in these tiny ecosystems. Here are the best places to find tidepools on the Northern shore of Massachusetts (Salem, Marblehead, Cape Ann, Beverly).
Dolliber Cove

From Crowninshield Island, families can walk to Dolliber Cove during low tide and explore its tidal pools, a small sandy beach, a field, a salt marsh and a wooded hilltop.

With all the rocks on this "beach", the tidepools here are brimming with sealife for kids to uncover. Unfortunately, it's only open to the public in the fall through the spring and not during the summer months unless you're a special Beverly resident.

The laboratory is located at Salem State College and houses on an 8-acre tidal pond called Smith Pool. This facility is open to school visits. Call for more information.
