About Me & My Family

I am a mom of 3 wonderful little boys (one with special needs), a beautiful baby girl, and am married to the man of my dreams. I am very interested in incorporating learning into activities that we do, so a trip to the beach turns into a school field trip. Recently, we moved back to California after a brief move to Texas and feel blessed to be able to be involved in all facets of Christian Camping. Because my husband and I serve in full time ministry, we're lucky to be able to spend a lot of time around each other and our family, having exciting adventures and just living life, day by day. :)
Our Family's Travel Personality
adventurous, curious, structured, relaxed, independent, energetic, spontaneous, easy_going, scheduled, artsy
We Just Got Back From
Japan, Lake Tahoe, Camp! (Not on the same trip though) :)
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Anywhere new where discoveries can be made! We're pretty frugal, so budget traveling is definitely the way we go. However, occationally, we do love to splurge too! :)
A Place We'd Love To Visit
Austrailia to scuba dive the barrier reef, a zero-gravity flight to experience weightlessness, ziplining and exploring a rainforest, exploring the vast glaciers in Alaska, just to name a few!
Favorite Vacation Memory
It's completely simple, but watching our 6 year old get selected to be a Jedi Knight at Disneyland. It's his "lifelong" dream and still today when someone asks him what he's going to be someday, he proudly answers, "A Star Wars Guy!"
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Right after checking into our hotel, my 4 year old threw up in the middle of the floor on the carpet, all over his jammies, his lovey, and on his little brother. Thankfully, the hotel we were staying in had a laundromat that was open late, so a few hours later, and after some carpet scrubbing, everything was cleaned up and like new.

The Best Ways & Places To See Fall Foliage In Texas!

I love the fall.  Watching the colors change on trees until they gingerly fall from the branches and gracefully land on the ground below. Raking leaves into a big pile for my kids to jump in and then having leaf "fights".  Preparing for the holidays surrounded by family and friends.  I love this time of the year!

Late October to mid-November visits to McKittrick Canyon are the most popular. The trees display their bright reds and golds which beautifully contrast with the steep canyon walls, desert plants, and wildlife. If you're planning on hiking in the Canyon, pack a lunch and visit the Stone Pratt Cabin and the Grotto, or hike the entire 14.8 miles (roundtrip) to McKittrick Ridge. McKittrick Canyon is designated as day-use only, with visiting hours from 8am - 6pm, April through October (Mountain Daylight Time), and 8am - 4pm, November through March (Mountain Standard Time).

Lake Bob Sandlin turns red and gold in late October-mid November! The gorgeous oak, hickory, pine, dogwood, redbud, and maple are in full color display around that time! Other activities include camping, fishing (especially bass, catfish, and crappie), hiking, swimming, mountain biking, nature watching, and in-line skating. This rugged canyon is definitely multi-use. From camping and hiking to horsebackriding, fishing, and more. In the fall, take advantage of the changing colors by viewing them on horseback! Outfitters are available in the fall and guided tours are available as well. If you want to save a little money, there is a great scenic route for vehicles. Other activities available are camping, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing and a ton of trails!

Canyon, Texas

Palo Duro is the Grand Canyon of Texas and the second largest canyon in the US, which in and of itself makes it a must-see. In the fall it becomes even more spectacular when the Cottonwood's turn a bright yellow! Visitors to this park can enjoy camping, cabin rentals, hiking, biking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing!

Hwy 14

At the end of October to Mid-November, the fall colors come alive from bright reds to dark burgandy's and yellow all against the deep green evergreens on highway 14 from Tyler to Winnsboro. Pack a lunch and enjoy a drive along rolling hills, hayfields, and dairies dotting the road. A one-way trip takes a little over an hour.
