Attend Book at the Zoo on October 21, 22, 28, 29 and 30th. There will be a spooky maze, haunted zoo, train rides and more!

"Alligators, giraffes, and tigers...oh my!"
The highlight of the zoo is feeding the giraffe.  There is a small structure that you can walk up to reach the giraffe.  There is a small area set up as a petting zoo.  Besides feeding the giraffe, my son’s favorite part of the zoo is the small train.  The train chugs through about 30 acres of land where animals are able to roam free.  Since the hurricanes in 2004 and 2005, the zoo has had to deal with many setbacks.  When you walk around the zoo, you can see areas that still need to be renovated.  Check into the Zoo Snooze while you are there.  Groups can camp for a night.  You will get a behind the scenes tour and can fall asleep to the sounds of the big cats roaring!

"Lots of activities happen here!"
This park is located in downtown Pensacola and is a great place to go for a walk or have a picnic lunch.  There is a fountain that the kids will like to look at.  Concerts in the Park occur every Thursday in the summertime.  Bring a picnic dinner and some quiet games for the kids.  Get there early because it packs up quickly.

Sign up for a spooky ghost tour. Tours are family friendly (there is an adults only tour) and you will learn more about the history of Pensacola.

"Steeped in history. We are 450 years old this year!"
Take the 1.5 hour tour if you have older children so that you can get some of the great history lessons.  If your children are younger and won't be able to tour for that long, you can just wander around the outside of the village and go into the shops.  There are some great restaurants down here where you can have lunch.  If you are here in October, attend one of the Haunted House Tours.  These tours showcase some of the spooky stories. The guides are all dressed up in period dress for the tours.

Take a tour of the lighthouse and hear the ghost stories! Be sure to call ahead for the schedule and remember that children under 7 cannot climb the lighthouse tower.

"Height Requirement"
The Lighthouse is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.  The Lighthouse is located across the way from the Naval Aviation Museum on the navy base.  We decided to drive over after a morning at the Naval Aviation Museum and were not able to go in because it was not open for tours.  There is a height requirement of 42in so we will have to wait to tour the inside until my daughter is a little older.  They also do not allow open toed shoes.  It is still neat to walk around the outside of the grounds.

During the month of October ride the Halloween Pumpkin Patch Express! See the haunted barn and more. This drive from from Pensacola is just about an hour or so.
