One of my favorite vacation memories was seeing my daughter splashing in the Boca Beach Club kiddie pool. Also, the first time she saw snow in Park City, Utah at the Park City Mountain Resort. She's still talking about ski school years later! Visiting Cancun! We recently visited Miami and explored South Beach, South Miami and Coral Gables. We also visited Innisbrook Golf Resort and Spa near Tampa Bay, Florida. Be sure to read my reviews about the resort and their Indaba Spa. What an amazing experience! Also, a holiday in France (wonderful home exchange--thanks for the ideas on Trekaroo!)
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:

"Hands off museum"
If your family loves exploring historical buildings to discover what life was like in the not too distant past (1931), then this might be a great place to visit.  Located along the Hillsborough River across from downtown Tampa, the museum is in the south wing of the former Tampa Bay Hotel (now part of the University of Tampa).  This is an amazingly, well preserved hotel museum.  There are many educational lectures and presentations throughout the year.  The high quality exhibits rotate frequently.  Please be aware that  the volunteer docents are very protective of their beloved museum and keep a watchful eye on guests with children.  If your child is prone to wander off, then feel free to relax in one of the rocking chairs on the wide veranda.

"Exhibits and art classes"
Our family enjoys exploring this local art center and their wonderfully varied exhibitions.  Some recent shows included work by women artists, works by emerging artists and a popular themed exhibit featuring work by local artists.  We especially enjoy taking family art classes on Saturday afternoons from 1-4pm for $10 (up to five members).  It's a great way to be creative and let the kiddos see us color, paint, draw and have fun right along with them.

"Wonderful collection"
The newly renovated Museum of Fine Arts in downtown St. Petersburg is a pleasant afternoon alternative to all of the sunshine and sand during your visit to Florida.  The permanent collection is a feast for the eyes and the wonderful variety of temporary exhibitions keep the locals coming back for more.  There's a huge Kapok tree around the museum which is ideal for family photos.   The cafe offers tasty treats for all ages.  Some of the volunteer staff are nervous when they see young families enter the galleries while others actively engage our preschooler by pointing out unique aspects in the artwork that might get overlooked.

"Aviation fun"
This small museum was a big hit with our nephews.  They liked learning about the airplane hanging from the ceiling and early days of commercial aviation.  Volunteers helped bring the exhibits to life which helped lots!  Meanwhile, our preschooler had fun playing dress up with the displays.  It's easy to explore and makes an ideal rainy day activitiy if you are visiting the Tampa Bay area.

"Hands on history"
This is not your typical history center!  It's a clean, modern building full of interactive historical exhibits all geared to bring history to life no matter how old you are.  When you approach the brand new LEED certified "green" Tampa Bay History Center, which is right in the heart of downtown Tampa, you might feel as if stepping back in time would be at odds with the marvelous, modern architecture but that's just the beginning of how this is not a typical history museum. Our preschooler had so much fun dressing up in historical clothes, riding horses as part of a cattle drive and especially stacking up the dominoes while waiting for our fabulous Cuban black beans and rice lunch.  There's so much to explore at this living museum and the Columbia Cafe offers amazing, tasty dishes sure to please even the pickiest diners.

"Shiny and new"
The newly opened Tampa Museum of Art sparkles in the Florida sun both inside and out.  The sleek, modern design along the banks of the Hillsborough River in downtown Tampa make this a wonderful addition to any Tampa Bay visit.  Our preschooler enjoys the Saturday morning drop in art classes (The Art Spot) which incorporate the current exhibit in the self-guided art activities.  Themes change each week which keeps the experience fresh and fun.

"Restaurants, aquarium and the view"
The view of Tampa Bay and back to downtown St. Pete are beautiful from The Pier.  There are a few upscale and also family friendly restaurants, tourist shops with unique local items, a small aquarium and a small food court for quick treats.  We visit there each December for the annual night boat parade and Tuba Christmas concert.  There are lots of special events, live music concerts and family activities scheduled year round.  Friends from out of town enjoyed feeding the pelicans and seeing the pirate ship docked outside.  You can buy pelican food, rent bikes with child carriers, get a drink at the rooftop tiki bar and kick back to enjoy the bay front view.  Go ahead....you're on vacation.

"Not kid friendly"
The small museum and surrounding courtyard has a good combination of historical photos and interesting displays but the unfriendly staff and small  spaces make it more than a bit  uncomfortable for families with small children.  If you do not mind taking turns watching the kiddos while your other half wanders through the few buildings,  then you'll have a better time exploring this museum.
