About Me & My Family
I'm a mother
3 Kids 0-8 years old boys and girls

When we travel, good food and adventure always abound. Our family loves to push the limit of what we can do with children. Our mantra has always been - have kids, will travel. However, this doesn't mean I'm unlike most frantic moms before a trip. Wanting adventure and being a control freak can sometimes be a lethal combination.
Our Family's Travel Personality

Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Hawaii
A Place We'd Love To Visit
New Zealand, Argetina, Brazil, Eastern Europe, Cambodia
Favorite Vacation Memory
Climbing Machu Picchu with a 4 month old infant in a slight and having all the locals stop us to ask what happened to his feet which were all bundled up. They just couldn't believe it wouldn't be bow legged.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Getting to the airport on our way to Scotland with my 15 month old and discovering that my husband's passport had expired. Instead of rebooking all of our flights, we decided that I would do the first leg of our journey on my own with baby. Unfortunately, we had not packed for me to be flying by myself. I could bearly walk to the runway with all my bags and a 15 month old who would get distracted by everything along the way. He then proceeded to sleep only 1 hour of the entire 11 hour journey (red-eye). It was pretty miserable.

Shrimp Trucks on the North Shore of Hawaii

The locals all know about the shrimp trucks on the North Shore of Hawaii located next to the shrimp farms in the town of Kahuku and area that has several aquaculture farms that cultivate - you guessed it - shrimp!  Most of the trucks serve the favorites: garlic, lemon butter, hot and spicy, sweet and spicy, or a soy-based sauce flavor of butter garlic, but each will have their own specialty or a their own twist.  You order a plate at the truck window and sit on picnic benches outdoors.  In some cases, right by the road.  It's a fun island experience for $10-12 a plate.

"What's the big Hoo Ha?"
I don't quite sure what the big hoo ha is about these shrimp trucks in Kahuku - shrimp town of Oahu - on the North Shore.  I have to give them credit that the shrimp is undoubtedly fresh and plump.  The shrimp does come straight from the farm down the street.  But for the prices you pay at about $12 per plate, you wouldn't expect to be sitting on the roadside eating out of a graffiti covered shrimp truck.  We tried about 4-5 different variations.  The spicy Korean shrimp was definitely the most tasty, but very greasy.  The garlic shrimp was just okay and so was the coconut shrimp.  The shrimp tempura was sorely disappointing.  I mean it wasn't really tempura.  I was breaded...we're talking more like panko crusted shrimp.  Anyway, it wasn't good.

I think the allure is that it's sort of a local thing to do...but tourist have caught on and it feels more gimicky rather than authentically local.  I'll give it another try next time...but I think I'll try another truck...perhaps it will redeem the experience for me.

Blue Water Shrimp serves up the popular flavors with an extra gourmet twist. Goat cheese on your salad anyone? They also serve other seafood like scallops, and ahi tuna.

Andy's bring Kahuku shrimp truck flavors closer into town and it's a great way to experience the shrimp trucks without trekking all the way out to the north shore.
