About Me & My Family
I'm a mother
3 Kids 0-8 years old boys and girls

When we travel, good food and adventure always abound. Our family loves to push the limit of what we can do with children. Our mantra has always been - have kids, will travel. However, this doesn't mean I'm unlike most frantic moms before a trip. Wanting adventure and being a control freak can sometimes be a lethal combination.
Our Family's Travel Personality
adventurous, independent, spontaneous
We Just Got Back From
Northern California and Oregon
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Hawaii
A Place We'd Love To Visit
New Zealand, Argetina, Brazil, Eastern Europe, Cambodia
Favorite Vacation Memory
Climbing Machu Picchu with a 4 month old infant in a slight and having all the locals stop us to ask what happened to his feet which were all bundled up. They just couldn't believe it wouldn't be bow legged.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Getting to the airport on our way to Scotland with my 15 month old and discovering that my husband's passport had expired. Instead of rebooking all of our flights, we decided that I would do the first leg of our journey on my own with baby. Unfortunately, we had not packed for me to be flying by myself. I could bearly walk to the runway with all my bags and a 15 month old who would get distracted by everything along the way. He then proceeded to sleep only 1 hour of the entire 11 hour journey (red-eye). It was pretty miserable.

Rock Center Cafe is a great option for families who are going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They will be serving their Prix Fixe Thanksgiving Day Menu that includes a traditional roasted turkey option. Other entree options offer quite a number of seafood alternatives as well as decadent appetizers. Close to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade route.

"A nicer place to dine that's kid-friendly"
We had Thanksgiving Day lunch at the Rock Center Cafe this year and it truly felt special.  We had just finished watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade about a block away and the reservation at 12 noon was perfectly timed.  The restaurant is at the same level as the Rockerfeller ice skating rink, so it was fun to watch people ice-skate while we dined.  It kept the kids entertained.  Although the restaurant has a nice fine dining decor, the atmosphere is very relaxed.  The kids totally felt at home.  The noise level was just loud enough so that we didn't need to fear that our kids were being too loud.  All in all, it felt like the perfect setting for a kid-friendly special meal.

The Thanksgiving Prix Fixe menu was $60/adults.  Their regular kid's menu was also available.  The food was good even for the food snob that I am.  To start, we had the pumpkin soup which was light with a nice touch of nutmeg.  We also had crispy pork with watercress.  The cripsy pork belly was decadent! My husband and kids had traditional roast turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing, and brussel sprouts.  It was tasty, but nothing imaginative.  I had braised short ribs on pumpkin polenta which was fall off the bone (although there was no bone) tender and the glaze was sweet with a rich flavor. The deserts were just okay.  We had apple pie and a pumpkin muffin of sorts.

There were many families sharing their Thanksgiving dinner at Rock Center Cafe and they all seemed very happy.  I would have loved to see a child size turkey dinner at a reasonable price.  Instead we ended up having to order an adult dinner and having the kids spilt the meal.  I highly recommend the Rock Center Cafe for a special meal with your kids.  It was the perfect balance of special and kid-friendly with good food - a rare combination.

"Great for kids, but food was expensive and so so"
Go to Ellen's Stardust diner for the experience of going to a fully decked out 50's diner.  Even the wait staff dress and act the part.  The wait staff serenade you all night with favorite tunes of the 50's.  The atmosphere is lots of fun.  Many of the wait staff have their hopes set on broadway, so they sure can belt out a tune and do it with finesse.

We got there on a Friday night around 7pm and there was a line, but it wasn't too long.  It's another one of those Times Square eating places that is rather intense.  The music is loud, the atmosphere is roudy, and the space is very tight.  You could have a screaming baby and feel quite comfortable here, yet the volume and the tight squeeze between tables might make your baby scream.

The food was decent.  The kid's menu had mac and cheese, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and a few other items.  Really nothing to write home about at all except that the kid's menu at dinner was $9.50.  Painful considering the kid's menu was looked more like frozen food on a plate.  The adult menu had a unique twist to the regular diner menu of burgers, fries and milkshakes.  The food was decent, but nothing to write home about.  Prices for dinner where very steep for what we got.  Burgers were $15-20 each.
