About Me & My Family
I'm a mother
3 Kids 0-8 years old boys and girls

When we travel, good food and adventure always abound. Our family loves to push the limit of what we can do with children. Our mantra has always been - have kids, will travel. However, this doesn't mean I'm unlike most frantic moms before a trip. Wanting adventure and being a control freak can sometimes be a lethal combination.

A Place We'd Love To Visit

Favorite Vacation Memory
Climbing Machu Picchu with a 4 month old infant in a slight and having all the locals stop us to ask what happened to his feet which were all bundled up. They just couldn't believe it wouldn't be bow legged.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Getting to the airport on our way to Scotland with my 15 month old and discovering that my husband's passport had expired. Instead of rebooking all of our flights, we decided that I would do the first leg of our journey on my own with baby. Unfortunately, we had not packed for me to be flying by myself. I could bearly walk to the runway with all my bags and a 15 month old who would get distracted by everything along the way. He then proceeded to sleep only 1 hour of the entire 11 hour journey (red-eye). It was pretty miserable.

Pick Your Own Cherry Farms Around San Francisco

Most of the u-pick cherry farms near San Francisco are clustered in Brentwood, CA.  Unfortunately, none of them claim to be organically certified.

Here is a list of cherry farms within a hour or two from San Francisco.  A few are outside of the Brentwood area.

"Low Trees, Great Cherries"
This is my favorite cherry farm in Brentwood.  With low trees that are easy for even toddlers to pick cherries off the tree, DC Extraordinary Cherries is a fun orchard to pick cherries at.  There are a wide variety of different cherries and it's fun to taste all the different varieties as you're picking them.  Pick up a bucket at the entrance and start picking.  Set up a picnic among the trees and feast to cherries over lunch.  No minimum charges.  No picnic tables.  Portable toilets aren't particularly pleasant, so either put little ones in diapers or make sure you stop at a gas station before you arrive at the farm.

"Great cherries by so crowded"
Pease Ranch is one of the most popular farms in Brentwood.  Everything  was great about the farm. Nice low trees that our little ones (2 adn 3) were able to pick the cherries easily.  They have a very large orchard and open it up one section at a time as the cherries ripen.  But what I really like about is that even if you go later in the season, you're bound to have cherries to pick because they keep each section roped if it's not ready to be picked.  My biggest complaint is that it was very crowded as this is one of the most well known and popular farms in the area.

There was a nice farm stand with running water at the farm.  Not real bathrooms....just portable ones.  But they did have cold water for sale which is so great when it's scorching hot.

"Various locations"
Wolfe ranch has several different locations and many different types of fruit to pick.  Their cherry orchrard at 2111 concord ave has nice low trees and good fruit.  It's a little out of the way and a pretty small cherry orchard.  Sign up for their mailing list and they will tell you what's ripe and ready for picking each week during the season.  A good way on keeping tabs of what the other farms might be having as well.

"Not as crowded"
Nice cherry farm that isn't so crowded as others.  The trees are trimmed so that the branches stay pretty low and the fruit is pretty easy to pick.  There are some low branches for kids to reach but the best fruit requires a ladder which they have in the fields.

"Insanely crowded"
This farm is just way too crowded.  If you are coming later in the season...forget about it.  Head straight to one of the lesser known farms.  I think the farm is popular because of it's location right in the heart of the brentwood.  The parking situation is pretty ugly on weekends.

"Skip with young kids"
Seko has the more traditional tall cherry trees that one has to climb a ladder to pick the cherries.  With young kids, just go to one of the other farms in Brentwood that have the short dwarf trees or trim their trees to keep the branches low (Pease, DC Extraordinary to name a couple).  But if it's late in the season, when other farms are picked clean, Seko is a good bet.  They are located right opposite Peter Wolfe's peach and nectarine farm.  This makes it convenient if you want to pick both types of fruit.
