About Me & My Family

We often visit or travel with family members for vacations, because time is precious and we want to not only experience new places, but do so with people that mean the world to us. We're fortunate to have family and friends with kids older than ours, so we have learned from them where we can as we go on each journey.
Our Family's Travel Personality
adventurous, curious, relaxed, spontaneous
We Just Got Back From
Cabo San Lucas
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Jackson Hole or Cabo are our fall-back trips
A Place We'd Love To Visit
New Zealand
Favorite Vacation Memory
On our recent trip to Cabo, our son (who is obsessed with sharks, dolphins and whales) got to go to the ocean. It was an amazing memory we'll always remember.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
My son's ear started bleeding on the first of two long flights across the country so we had to find the nearest Urgent Care as soon as we got to our destination.

Must see and do holiday attractions in Cincinnati

The holidays are a great time to see local attractions in a whole new light! Here are our favorite ways to get in the holiday spirit in the Cincinnati area.

"Trains, Santa & Fun for all ages"
This is a holiday tradition for us (we even went with our nieces and nephews before our son--now 3--was born).  The holiday train exhibit has train exhibits, train tables, a train that kids can ride on, and Santa visits regularly. There truly is something for every child to do/see and it grows with them.

The exhibit is downstairs at the museum center, across from the Children's Museum entrance, either take the escalator or elevator and follow the signs. There is stroller parking in the exhibit, as it gets pretty crowded on weekends (bring a sling/carrier for infants). Admission is free for members or included with purchase of an All Museums Pass or a ticket to the Cincinnati History Museum.

"New at the zoo"
I Love love love the new Cincinnati Zoo iPhone app! It has a map that shows you where you are with extreme accuracy, plus a schedule of events. While you're getting electronically connected, be sure to "friend" the zoo on Facebook for insider info on the exhibits and happenings.

One of the great things about the Cincinnati Zoo is the seasonal events that they have that make the zoo experience fun and new throughout the year.

We go to the Zoo Babies exhibit every spring. The weather is mild so the animals are more active and the flowers are beautiful throughout.

In the winter, the Festival of Lights puts everyone in the holiday spirit. It's a new way to see the zoo - at night, with a holiday spin.

Strollers are a must, even for slightly older kids, as the zoo is kind of hilly.

"Nice holiday outing"
Aside from the many outdoor festivals throughout the year, Fountain Square is great during the holidays. There is an ice skating rink and there are several shopping destinations right in the area. It really feels like a big city downtown and the kids will love seeing the buildings at night (we took my son's cousins and they loved yelling out the letters on top of the buildings).

In the summer, the area is nice to visit during the day, but at night does not have as much of a family feeling like the holiday timeframe. Walk a couple of blocks east on 5th street and you will find a big grassy area where you can do a downtown picnic. The grassy area is also a haven for families during festivals like Oktoberfest.

"Can be crowded, but worth it"
The aquarium is a great activity for kids and adults. They do not allow strollers during the summer months, but if you can go during the week in the winter, the crowd isn't a worry. We've been going there since our son was 6 months old. There are great interactive displays throughout and the penguin habitat is great entertainment! It's a little pricey for the one day pass, but if you live in the region and will go two times or more, the membership pays for itself.
The Newport area is a great shopping area, so its a fun day to spend with the family.

"Get your Norman Rockwell moment here"
Choose a pre-cut or cut your own Christmas tree, Antique tractor and wagon rides, free hot chocolate and family photo. Dress the kids warmly because its all outside and the ride is about 10 minutes long.

My boss told me about this farm when I moved to the area, he and his family have been going there for 20+ years (his sons still come back from college for it.) This is a great holiday tradition to start with your family and I'm so glad we did.

Prices are very reasonable. They are open on Saturdays and Sundays only. This is a lovely, family owned tree farm, so you feel good supporting their business.
