"Very charming kid place"
We have not been many times to the Bay Area Discovery Museum but every time we did, my children always had a great time. There have often special performances going on. The indoors exhibitions are really interesting and the indoors ones will keep your children busy for a long time while you relax, admiring the view. They are free every December 26th so that is a good moment to check them out,.

The T-Rex, the Triceratops, the Stegosaurus and their robotic friends will be waiting for you in Berkeley! Walk among them as they roar, stomp, and try to impress you. And they will. They had a similar exhibit years ago and one of my daughters was taken aback, she thought they were real. There is a special area for younger children who may be impressed by the beasts.

With all that money and that buzz, how come we still prefer the old Academy of Sciences? So much space and so little to discover. Granted: the Rainforest is really nice and we all liked the science/screens area. But overall, there is not much space to navigate in the rainforest exhibits and the aquarium. The living roof is nice but well, just nice. The penguins could have benefited from a bigger exhibit and why keep the savana exhibition the way it was when you changed everything else?
I have two free tickets and I can not persuade my children go back...

"An enjoyable experience"
The DeYoung is located in the beautiful Golden Gate Park so there is plenty of things to do after the museum visit. We were not into the American impressionism but we really enjoyed the rest of the art: primitive, African, and especially the Glass Art. My kids really spent a while admiring them. There are plenty of pieces that will fascinate the children and will make the visit to this museum a very pleasant one. Do not forget to take the elevator to the Observatory Tower: San Francisco at your feet!
Avoid their parking garage: no validation and expensive.

"Very interesting with always interesting exhibitis"
We love the Conservatory of Flowers. It is located in the beautiful Golden Gate Park and if you go on a Sunday, you will not have to share the park with cars. The Conservatory is on the small side but we keep coming back because they have wonderful exhibitions. My children are still talking of the Butterflies exhibit they saw years ago. We walked in butterflies heaven.
Right now and till April 18,2010, they are hosting the Golden Gate Express Garden Railway. It is a miniature railway layout, with a train driving along the San Francisco landmarks. This is simply amazing. Love the sounds and the fog! Their attention to details is amazing and we loved that they reuse, recycle, and repurposed materials.
We had lots of fun playing a game of I SPY.
Do not miss it.

The Luxor is hosting two fantastic exhibits:
Titanic: the Artifact Exhibition and Bodies
Titanic: the Artifact Exhibition
The exhibition showcases artifacts from the lost vessel: unopened bottle of Champagne, gaming chips, passenger personal papers and much more. You will get to see reproductions of the Grand Staircase and the cabins. Our family saw a sister exhibit in San Francisco years ago and we had chills. One of the best exhibits we had ever seen. A must see.
Bodies: the Exhibition.
275 human body specimens are displayed and it is a real life anatomy lesson. You will be able to observe the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Be aware that the exhibition is not for everybody be it an adult or a child. I went to a sister exhibition in San Jose and took my 9 year old daughter who was impressed and interested. I could not take my sensitive 12 years old daughter and husband. So talk about the exhibition beforehand, review the information about the exhibition on the website and do not force a resistant kid or spouse. The exhibit is extremely interesting but it is real bodies so you do not want to force it on anybody who is not ready.

"Place to stay if your children are Egypt buffs"
Picking a hotel in Las Vegas is quite hard. They are so many to choose from. My two daughters really love anything Egyptian so I picked that particular hotel, hoping not to disappoint them. They were very excited upon entering the pyramid, especially after seeing the Sphinx. Inside the pyramid, anything and everything is Egyptian inspired. It can be a bit tacky but they did not seem to mind. The room we got was big and comfortable, more than enough for the little time we spent in it. We got a great deal on the room by registering to the Luxor Newsletter and taking advantage of a special offer.
