About Me & My Family

We are a family of 5 who travels together several times a year, but not always to destinations far, far away. Most of our trips have been to places within 2/3 hours of our home so as not to have the biggest memory of our trip be the travel. We took a big step a few summers ago by embarking on a 5-hour journey to Williamsburg, VA for a weeklong vacation, and thankfully it was a huge success. Since then, we have also done a 7 hour trip to Cape Cod and another 7 hour trip to Vermont. Our memories so far are good ones, and it has been fun to see more and more places in our region of the country, so who can ask for more than that?

"A monster of a good time"
I have been going to Sesame Place for years with my kids and since we live only 40 minutes from there, we always get season passes.  I have found that the best times to go are before school lets out for the summer (May and early/mid June) and after Labor Day.  You can still have a good time in July and August but it is FAR more crowded. ESPECIALLY on a Saturday!  That being said, it is still a lot of fun for the under 7 crowd.  There is plenty for them to do, even if they are not "ride" people.  There are things to climb on and places to get wet and slides and a little playground area and a bouncy area as well.  I have found the staff to be helpful and nice.  I always eat before I go or pack a lunch and eat in the car before we go in since I  found the food to be expensive (and living only 40 minutes away, find it hard to justify eating there).  The shows are entertaining and worth attending as well.  It can be kind of expensive to go here, especially when you add in parking and that's why I recommend the season pass if you plan to go more than 2 or 3 times a season.  They usually have them on sale in the winter - check their website for specifics.

"Waves of (crowded) fun!"
I live not quite an hour from Dorney Park, so I have been going there my whole life.  I have found that this is a great park for a variety of age groups, making it a terrific option for a family needing to accommodate both older and younger members.  You pay one admission price and can ride all of the rides and experience all of the shows in both the water park and the dry section.  (There are also discount admission coupons in Entertainment Books, KidStuff Books and area restaurants to bring the cost down further).

I have found that my family of five (ranging in age from 44 to 5 yrs old) can literally spend the entire day in the water park section, there is that much to do.  The dry rides are a great option as well for cooler days or for when the water kingdom closes, or for when you just get sick of dripping...
Some families are not water park people, so this gives them options to choose from as well.  Both sections are a day's worth of fun.

For younger kids, there is Camp Snoopy, which offers rides and shows for littler tykes.  There are also water squirters nearby to cool them off on hot days.  With supervision and a life vest (provided free of charge), the younger kids can enjoy the wave pool in the water kingdom as well as several splash sections designed for their age bracket.

Older kids, tweens and teens will like the many thrill rides scattered throughout the park, including a variety of roller coasters and water tube rides.  There is also an ice show in the arena now, for a change of pace, and for those not interested in the extreme thrill rides.  I thought it was simply wonderful to go in there in August to cool down!

I would recommend Dorney Park to families for the variety, as well as convenience.  You can leave the park and take things to your car if necessary, or get items you've forgotten pretty quickly.  Since I live nearby, I usually limit my in-park eating experience to one meal by stopping on the way there to purchase sandwiches, hoagies, or other fare and eating before entering.  You will see a lot of people doing this in the parking lot when you get there.

My family has always had a good time here and I do like going, although I must admit it gets tremendously crowded, especially in peak months (July and August).  I would recommend aiming to come here any other time.  If that isn't possible, perhaps prepare yourself for this fact, and have a good time anyway.  I try to remember that everyone is there just to have fun and aim to make the best of the day, but it is better to go in knowing it can sometimes be packed with people, most especially in the water park.

Bring the family to this terrific park and spend the day screaming, spinning, splashing, strolling - and smiling!

"Take a ride back in time."
Knoebels Amusement Park is a terrific way to experience the way amusement parks used to be.  It's a wonderful park with a lot of character and everyone I know who has been here has vowed to go again.

One of the best things about this park is their "pay as you ride" system, instead of one admission price, like many parks.  Being an "amusement park wimp" I know the pain of paying admission and never setting foot on a ride.  At Knoebels, you don't ride -- you don't pay.  Yay!

There are many rides here, some for little kiddos, some for the older set, and some for the biggest of us.  You can also eat, drink and enjoy free entertainment at a variety of places.  There's also a plethora of carnival-style games for people who love that kinda stuff.  When we went, we brought our own food and took advantage of their picnic grove to eat before we went on the rides (maybe that was not well thought out).  But it all worked out well and we had a great time!

Many people I know have camped there (or nearby) and say it adds to the experience.  They can stay at the park as long as they like and then relax by the campfire at night.  I know the rates are terrific and it may be just the thing to round out what I consider to be a pretty good ride back in time.
