About Me & My Family

Three little girls run amuck in this house, so there are days when we just HAVE to get out and get going somewhere. We love zoos, parks, beaches, and traveling around to visit friends and family. We enjoy finding awesome deals for places that are kid friendly. Taking our three girls with us as we travel around the country is by far our most favorite thing to do.

San Francisco
A Place We'd Love To Visit
Vancouver
Favorite Vacation Memory
After a long day of sledding and climbing through the hills in Lake Tahoe, our family sat in front of the fireplace in our hotel and roasted marshmallows. The soft glow on my girl's faces, mixed with their hazy, tired eyes made the warmth of the fire mean so much more.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Not realizing how crowded the city bus would be with my girls in San Francisco!! We had to make 4 connections and fold and collapse the stroller at each stop. It was back-breaking, frustrating and a LONG DAY!
Websites I Like:

Illinois Military and Veterans Museums

Veteran's Day should be more than just a fun day off from school!!  If you are a parent who is interested in sharing some history and insight into what our veteran's have done for our country, look no further than these museums.

Comment:
This site functions more as a monument to the fallen soldiers from Illinois; located near the Lincoln tomb and memorial.

A museum in a small space, packed with over 5,000 artifacts from all US Wars.

47 West Division Street
Chicago, Illinois

Comment:
A very well designed and funded museum full of everything related to the Korean War from artifacts and films to a call for remembrance. Not for young children.

1S151 Winfield Rd
Wheaton, Illinois

Comment:
Exhibits range from WWI to current day; Life size dioramas put kids into the scene where they can feel empathy for the soldiers.

1004 Samuelson Road
Rockford, Illinois

Comment:
Their goal is to educate young children, although only a self-guided tour is offered.

The First Division museum offers a look into the front lines of service throughout time, and it claims it does so for all ages. There is also a "tank park" to play on!

This beautiful park houses many historic fort barracks, offices and other buildings. October's Fort Massac days hosts reinactments. There is a video for information on a self-guided tour, and tons of grounds to run and discover.

Naval history and special sections on Navy bootcamps.

This museum covers all of Illinois history, not just military history. That being said, there is probably something here for kids of every age.

321 N. Main Street
Pontiac, Illinois

Comment:
Small museum, although exclusively staffed by veterans so you can certainly get some great information for your kids.
