"Very charming kid place"
We have not been many times to the Bay Area Discovery Museum but every time we did, my children always had a great time. There have often special performances going on. The indoors exhibitions are really interesting and the indoors ones will keep your children busy for a long time while you relax, admiring the view. They are free every December 26th so that is a good moment to check them out,.

"Centrally located "
When you are in Union Square,  you are in the center of San Francisco. The Square is very pleasant to sit at and enjoy a drink. It is the starting place of many things to do in San Francisco. You are a mere blocks away from the start of the cable car, the Westfield mall with the stores and theaters, the Metreon center, the SF MOMA, the Jewish Museum and much more. For Christmas, it is beautifully decorated and there is a ice-skating rink to enjoy!

"A disappointment"
With all that money and that buzz, how come we still prefer the old Academy of Sciences? So much space and so little to discover. Granted: the Rainforest is really nice and we all liked the science/screens area. But overall, there is not much space to navigate in the rainforest exhibits and the aquarium.  The living roof is nice but well, just nice. The penguins could have benefited from a bigger exhibit and why keep the savana exhibition the way it was when you changed everything else?
I have two free tickets and I can not persuade my children go back...

"many things to do"
The Yerba Buena Gardens holds my children all time favorite playground. And my least one! There are so many children running around that I am always afraid that one will get hurt. And that happened to the little one who got run over by an older kid. Other than that, between the ice skating place, the Zeum, the fountain, the free concerts that are held regularly on the lawn, and  many things that I forget, it is a place to breathe and stop with the kids while visiting San Francisco.

Have you ever heard of the Garden Railway? Well, you will find the Playland at the Beach themed railways exhibit it at the Conservatory of Flowers till April 15th, 2012. You will enjoy a mini version of San Francisco's beloved amusement park, Playland at the Beach.

"Very interesting with always interesting exhibitis"
We love the Conservatory of Flowers. It is located in the beautiful Golden Gate Park and if you go on a Sunday, you will not have to share the park with cars. The Conservatory is on the small side but we keep coming back because they have wonderful exhibitions.  My children are still talking of the Butterflies exhibit they saw years ago. We walked in butterflies heaven.
Right now and till April 18,2010, they are hosting the Golden Gate Express Garden Railway. It is a miniature railway layout, with a train driving along the San Francisco landmarks. This is simply amazing.  Love the sounds and the fog! Their attention to details is amazing and we loved that they reuse, recycle, and repurposed materials.
We had lots of fun playing a game of I SPY.
Do not miss it.

"Charming little block"
This block of Thompson Avenue is full of lights and Christmas characters all December. If you come between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm, your children can have their picture taken with Santa (for free). There is a donation box. There is also a  mailbox. If you post your letter to Santa, you will receive a response to your letter. We have two children and they both received their own personnalized letter. Nice thought.
We go to Christmas Lane every year and we always have a nice time spotting new decorations or recognizing new ones.

"The little zoo that could"
We love the Oakland zoo and kept a membership for years. Now that my children are bigger, they have less interested in zoos but they younger, they definitely spent happy hours there. Do not start by their children zoo,it is so enjoyable that your children will not want to leave to explore the rest ofthe place. IT is small but it seems to be a very caring place for animals, they really seem to have much more space to roam than many zoos. They have rides just outside the zoo with a train ride that is a little bit cheesy, I have to say...

"Get back in time in the middle of the Silicon Valley"
It is nice to go back in time in the middle of the agitation of the cities surrounding this nice little park. There is always something happening: little train pushed by the horse, the feeding of the animals, the blacksmiths, the visit of the main Home (especially worth it at Christmas Time) and all the special events held all year long. One of our family favorite places to go!

"Wonderful"
This is a wonderful place with a beautiful mansion to visit and gardens that are  dream. It is such a beauty when everything is in bloom. They organize great events: art, concert series, and tea parties. I had my doubt at first when I brought my children there (12 and 8) but I never imagined as much they would enjoy it. After a quick tour of the home, we spent hours in the garden, walking as well as sitting and just enjoying the views. We did not want to leave but had to, it was closing time! They have a beautiful gift shop with original products and delicious honey from their grounds. We had never taste honey that was so good, buying that honey itself is worth the trip!
