About Me & My Family

My husband and I have 4 kids... 3 boys and then our girl. We homeschool them all and travel when possible. We just started letterboxing and are finding ourselves a little obsessed with it.

Favorite Vacation Memory
Walking the meadows of Yosemite with my family. The quiet, the sparkling water, the rustling grasses, and a dip in the river made for an amazing day.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Anytime throw up is involved. Especially when one kid triggers another. And when we are in the car. And when they choose to use the box that is holding all their library books and toys.

Great places to Enjoy Animals for kids in Los Angeles

Kids and animals go together like watermelon and the 4th of July.  It just is too fun to see kids eyes light up at the huge size of elephants, and giggle at the antics of cats.  More than just a zoo, these locations around Los Angeles can be fun outings to visit animals with kids.

"Seal friend"
We spent a lot of time in the seal tunnel which is near the back of the aquarium.  My youngest son at the time was 3 and he was carrying a bag of goldfish in his hand.  One seal spotted him and came nose to nose with my son.  They stared at each other and then proceeded to play with each other as much as they could with big plate glass separating them.  We were all giggling with the fun of the experience.
Lesson is: bring a bag of snacks and spend some time in the seal tunnel!

The Big Red Barn is stocked with every variety of farm animals, just waiting for a visit from kids. Milking demonstrations, pig races, goat milking, and more. The fair is held annually every September.

"More than we could see"
I took all 4 of my kids with my friend and her kids on a free homeschooling day.  We had a blast, saw as much as we could, and left exhausted but satisfied.  Our favorite area of the fair was the old town area.  My oldest son (9) sat and watched the professional broom maker for about 20 minutes.  Then he picked up the left over straw pieces and formed his own crude broom.  Meanwhile, my 7 year old put together a rag doll from the old pioneer days.  We sat in the desks of the old school house and then watched the blacksmith at work.

We started the day by heading towards the barns and farm animals, hoping that the rest of the crowd would go the other direction first.  It seemed to work and we were not overwhelmed with lots of people until later in the day.

Iced lemonade and cotton candy (plus our own lunches) helped us get through the very hot and long day.
