About Me & My Family

Hi, I'm Bridget Smith, Founder of Family Adventure Guidebooks and mom of three. I enjoy family adventures with my kids ages 4-9 in San Diego and beyond. We are big fans of theme parks. I wrote an Unauthorized Guidebook to Legoland and we are currently Disneyland pass holders. This year my focus is on having fun for less. We looking forward to lots of local adventures this summer.

Our Favorite Vacation Spot

A Place We'd Love To Visit
San Francisco
Favorite Vacation Memory
A trip to Santa Barbara when my youngest was a newborn. DH was at a conference and I managed two babies and a big kid at the zoo, at local parks, at the beach etc. It was the moment that I started getting braver about family travel.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
We relied on the GPS and ended up getting very lost and taking a teeny fire road up to Lake Arrowhead. One the way back to Grandma's house my son threw up all over the car!

"Carlsbad Flower Fields Delightful for Little Ones"
Beautiful fields of blooming flowers, a hay ride, a Santa's village, what's not to like?  This place is great for photo ops and one of the crown jewels of Carlsbad.  Keep an eye out for discount tickets.  They also give out Legoland Discount coupons so if your are on your way to Legoland and are also planning to visit the flower fields, you might want to pay a visit to the Flower Fields first.

The flowers bloom for a very short season...make sure to check to see if it is open before you  go.

"A Family Favorite"
My family enjoys this beach.  We can usally find a place to park and the boogy boarding is great.  It attracts lots of families and locals.  Bathrooms are available.  They are building a big resort area across the street so it remains to be seen whether this will maintain its small town feel.

One of the closest beaches to both Legoland and Downtown Carlsbad. If you forget your bathing suit you can still enjoy a stroll along the sea wall.

"A serious surf beach close to Carlsbad Village"
My family enjoys this beach.  Free parking is available.  It is close to the village which has lots of fun taquerias and other places to eat.  The rip current can be serious so do pay attention to where to swim.  Keep an eye out for the neighborhood artist who balances rocks.  His creations are quite spectacular.

"Love the Peacocks"
This is a fun historical location to explore.  Kids learn about early California and old Hollywood at the same time.  Lots of paths and interesting buildings keep everyone busy.  My kids adore the peacocks that roam the ranch.  There is a visitor's center if youhave questions.

"Fun Skate Park for All Ages"
The great thing about this skate park is that it appeals to several different levels of skaters.  For the most part my kids have always felt welcome.  There are big  boulders for younger siblings to climb.  Since it is close the the police station and the fire station, I feel secure knowing that if someone gets hurt help is close by.  Be sure to bring your helmet and elbow pads .   They are required,
