About Me & My Family

We are a family of 5. We love to travel and to see new things. We look for a educational experience in everything we do and my we do a lot. Our kids are so used to being on the go that they have tremendous stamina. We try to plan 2 large trips every year and supplement them with weekend get-aways, staycations and a day jaunt now and again. Our kids are always wondering what the next spot will be.

Favorite Vacation Memory
Watching the kids lug their car seats through the airport on their first plane ride.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
My youngest got sick with the stomach bug at 4 am in the morning 1 hour before our plane ride to get to St' John USVI. We had to make it through 2 plane legs, 1 long taxi ride, a ferry ride and a 45 minute rental car ride to our villa with her being sick!!!

Fun places to meet Santa in New England

Santa brings the magic of Christmas alive for many children. The places on this list are terrific destination visits for meeting Santa. They will truly create long lasting Christmas memories. Rather than meet and greet Santa spend some time enjoying the day!!!

Christmas village is a Torrington tradition begun in 1947. Here your child gets some quality time with Santa in an elaborately decorated sitting room and he gives them each a toy picked out for them. At this spot you can also see the reindeer, real elves busy at work and Mrs. Claus. Everything is decorated through the eyes of a child. The waits are usually very long and cold as the line to enter forms outside. However, for the past 8 years we have gone every year and gotten in line just before the 8:30PM cutoff and they have always let us inside the gates before closing them at 8:30pm until the next day although the website warns of turning you away if you are not there by 6pm. We will be there at 8pm again this year to save our toes from freezing!!!This is a free attraction but donations are accepted and you use your own camera to photograph the moment. The village opens 12/11 and last year hosted 20,000 visitors!!!!

"Where Santa Lives"
Younger children will be especially thrilled with this visit with Santa. Each child who waits in line...and there are many of them are rewarded with a chat with Santa and a real toy. My kids have gotten dolls, Beanie Babies, Matchbox cars etc. There are also other decorated out building where you can visit with Mrs. Claus and working elves. You might even score a handmade toy from one on the elves in the workshop. Outdoors are some reindeer and other themed displays. We have gone every year since the now turning 9 year old twins were 1. It has become a tradition regardless of how cold the wait might be. We also enjoy the carols, some hot chocolate and a warm fire while we are waiting. Sometime the kids have even played in the snow while waiting. If you do go, try to go late. They close the gate at 8pm and let everyone waiting in to visit with Santa. If you go early you will be standing in line for a much longer time with everyone else. Bring the jammies and make a night of it!!. Open only after Thanksgiving to Chritmas eve. Check the City of Torrington official website for further info. All visits are free, donations accepted. There is a fee for the hot chocolate. Check out the Christmas House nearby also in Torrington for a festive night out!!!

The Hobo railroad operates the Ho-ho-hobo train ride during the holidays. Train enthusiasts get to ride with Santa. The $15-$18 ride with children under 2 free leaves at 1pm on weekends from after Thanksgiving to December 18th. You must have reservations. In the evening this same line operates the Polar Express tour.

Santa's Village is a beautiful, clean, well-maintained amusement park in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The Christmas music is piped in all year long and during Christmas the place is even more decorated for the holiday. Most rides remain open for the winter hours and there are some very cute shows with holiday themes. The Village is open from 11-7pm on Saturdays and 11-7pm on Sundays. Santa is there all day with 2 posted breaks. Visit Santa toward the end of the day when the crowd starts to clear.

"Christmas all year"
Sants Village is my favorite family theme park. It is Christmas all year, carols playing, decorations, Santa, Christmas snacks...everything. The kids love this day long diversion with kid rides that adults can go on too!!. Rudy's Rapid Transit is a roller coaster and the Yule log is a flume ride!!! There is also the Elfabet game where the kids search for different elves with witty names from the elfabet and win a prize. I have never been at Christmas but I am sure it is grand. We always go during the Cloumbus day hoiday and it sets the tone for the rest of our holiday season!!!! Its not that far from storyland so if you make the trip to Storyland I devinately suggest Santa Village!!!

Yankee Candle has one of the most authentic Santa's we have visited. He is usually there year round, dressed in civvies in the off season. He loves to chat with the kids and many times Mrs. Claus is there by his side knitting away. Santa always has a story to tell,a question to ask and a craft to make for the kids. He is in the toy department of the fabulous Yankee Candle store/experience. He takes breaks throughout the day which are not posted.

"aromalicious"
We go to Yankee Candle every April to enjoy the atmosphere. There is a museum on sight and some candle making demos. However, it really is a place to shop and if you love candles this is the place. They have very scent imaginable. The kids love to smell all the votives and they have kids diversions everywhere. Santa is usually there, Mrs. Claus is often there, there are animatronic singers and snow falling in the Bavarian Christmas center. The kids enjoy it every year (ages 7,7,4). We usually go around Easter and there is always a scavenger hunt. I am sure they have other avtivities during different parts of the year. There is no fee to enter but be prepared to part with some money for candles and accessories.
