Walking the meadows of Yosemite with my family. The quiet, the sparkling water, the rustling grasses, and a dip in the river made for an amazing day.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Anytime throw up is involved. Especially when one kid triggers another. And when we are in the car. And when they choose to use the box that is holding all their library books and toys.

"Secret Park"
My boys and their friends nicknamed this park, "The Secret Park" because it's somewhat hidden off the beaten path, and because of it's enclosed gate.  They are referring to the tot lot at the top of the hill of this wide and grassy Grand Park.

The amazing views across Orange County, the covered shade, and the completely enclosed fence make this park (the tot lot) one of our favorites.  Parking is easy to find on the street and the gate door closes.

I took all of my kids here today (10, 8, 4, 2) and I was worried about the older ones having enough to do.  My little ones ran around and went down the slide while my older boys held races and obstacles courses around the structure and the "Tarzan hanging swings".  They had a blast.

On the down side, there are no bathrooms in this area and the local businesses down the steep hill (or drive) are not open to non-customers.  There are multitudes of rabbits that hop along the hillsides in Aliso Viejo and the evidence is seen in the small pellet droppings in the sand.  I have no idea if this is bad for my kids to play in it and I usually don't worry about it but it bothers me sometimes.  The structure is wooden and could lead to splinters in my kids feet who love going barefoot at parks.  Despite these things, we love this little play area!

"Great ride"
Kids of all ages and parents alike will enjoy riding this miniature railroad.  No fear, parents, of having to endure cramped quarters or a repetitive ride in an endless circle.  This train has roomy benches led by a quaint red engine and a conductor decked out in his pinstripe overalls.  The ride takes you through the lush grounds, large oaks and sycamores and around the lagoon while the conductor shares history on this 100 plus year old park.
All aboard for a fantastic ride!

"Nature trails and a stream"
This little section of trails is located right in the heart of Orange County, surrounded by housing developments and businesses.  What a jewel of nature, preserved for us to enjoy.  Sometimes the "getting out to enjoy nature" takes work, but that effort is richly rewarded at this place.

My kids and I hiked the stream trail, past an amphitheater, a mine, and over 5 or 6 cute little bridges.  We saw ducks, woodpeckers and heard the rhythmic croaking of Pacific Tree Frogs.  The 1/4 mile nature trail (just up the stairs by the Nature Center) has a lot to offer kids.  My kids jumped in the broken "bird egg" and chirped like baby birds, crawled through the turtle shell and then pretended to be animals living in a hollowed log.  Interpretive signs helped me teach them a little history and nature as we wandered the trail.  A butterfly garden filled with large butterfly structures attracted my kid's attention for quite some time.  We loved our time in nature today!

Most of the trails and bridges are narrow and would most likely accommodate a small stroller or jogger.  However, the stream trail has many steps and would not work for a stroller.  Other trails are available but will not take you over the bridges that would be sure to entice most kids.

The trails are well marked and lined with stones, but I saw many areas of poison oak off the trail.  In most cases it was far back from the trail, but is a good reason to stay out of the bushes here!
