Camping on the Gulf Coast

There are lots of great campsites that help you get as close to the sugary white sands as possible.  Some are even located right on the beach!

"Open for business!"
**This area is open for business! Camping, the fort, etc are open.

Although Ft. Pickens is a wonderful place to take the family, there are many parts of the state park that are still closed due to Hurricane Ivan in 2004.  They are currently working on the roads that lead in and out of the park, but at this time the only way in and out of the park is on foot or by water taxi.  It can be a bit of a hike.  Camping has reopened, is inexpensive and sites are available on a first come, first serve basis.  We stayed at the Ft. Pickens campsite for the 2004 Blue Angels beach show.  It was nice to just walk out to the water to watch the air show and then have a “home” to go walk back to afterwards!

"Camping and beach together!"
St. Andrews State Park is a great place to take the kids if your family loves camping and the beach!  The park has several car camping sites equipped with running water and electricity.  Several sites can accommodate pop-up and RV campers as well.  We like to rough it in the tent.  The park has boat ramps near the camp sites allowing you to explore the bay in your boat.  Just a short drive or walk from the camping sites is the park’s private beach, accessible only to paying park customers.  This feature is nice for families as the beach is clean and kept, with bathroom facilities near the parking lots.  Bike/hiking trials are also available for those looking for some peace and quiet. If you don’t want to totally rough it, you can head out to one of the Panama City Beach restaurants before hitting the sack.
