"Watch the fisherman; eat the fish"
The fish and chips are GooD, but the walk down the pier to this little fish stand at the end is Spectacular. On our last walk, we saw pelicans walking on the pier, huge jellyfish in the water below and a fisherman who caught a small shark. Our boys were in awe. Chicken strips and hamburgers are on the menu for non-fish eaters, but our kids ate it with ketchup and no complaints. You pay at the window and then pick up your food and find a place to sit with views of the surfers. This is not a fine dining establishment, but a fun activity/lunch while visiting San Diego.

"Holy Hamburger, Hodad's!"
This place is happening! With the name meaning a 'wanna-be surfer', this hamburger joint is decked out with surf decor and quite the collection of license plates on the wall. The vibe is loud, busy, creative and perfect for tourists and families. You should expect a line the door, especially during summer. As for the menu: cheeseburgers with all different toppings (We went with the traditional bacon cheeseburger and did not go wrong!), onion rings to come back for, and milk shakes (if you saved any room!) Whenever we are in San Diego, this is a MUST stop for our family. In fact, I'm craving those onion rings now...

The wait is long (so, could be a challenge with little ones...) but sooo worth it! Phil and the 'BBQrew" expect a line around the restaurant, so benches and tv's and even an outside bar and free water are provided. The menu is posted, so be ready to order when you get to the front of the line. Don't let the low prices trick you into thinking that the food quality is low. Just be thankful that you aren't paying what the food is worth. Our kids devoured the BBQ chicken and the hubs and I thought the ribs and onion rings were sooo good. We live an hour and a half north of this place, but we might drive down again when we are craving BBQ. It's THAT good.

"newly renovated fish market!"
We used to go to this place when it was literally a smelly fish market. We re-visited this summer and were surprised to see some renovations. You can still see all the fresh fish in the glass cases, but the smell and grime were gone. You can't go wrong with all the fresh menu choices: fried calamari, fish tacos... chicken fingers are offered for non-fish-eaters. Dining is outside on the patio or upper deck with views of the harbor.

We had a big party of 7 (2 kids and a baby included) on a Sunday evening and we were pleasantly surprised to be seated quickly AND that happy hour is every day from 2-6 (and all day on Monday...). We were able to order food off that menu between $3-6 instead of a meal. Kids meals were $5, including a drink. And if those deals don't make you visit, maybe this will: The salsa and chips you devour before your meal at mexican food restaurants? Well, Miguel's adds some awesome warm queso dip. Enough said.

"dog friendly breakfast spot"
We love 1134 for breakfast. The kids were happy picking out a small box of sugary cereal (hey, it's vacation... so we allowed it) and we were pleased with our cappucino's and omelet. There are four tables out front, which is great for people watching on Orange. Those are the coveted tables. If you're not-so-lucky, there are tables inside (but it feels a little stuffy) or tables on the back patio. Don't forget to get bring a treat home for your dog. Or you can bring your dog with. This cafe is kid AND dog friendly.

We HAVE to go to Moo Time whenever we visit Coronado Island. Our running family joke is, "What time is it?" And the kids say, "MOO TIME!" It's tradition to get a picture of the kids sitting on the cow outside. They have a 'mini moo' which is a kids' scoop with one topping. FYI: they only take cash and in the summer months, expect a line outside. There are a few tables outside to eat your ice cream. If you are staying in Coronado for vacation, consider getting a frequent stamp card, because you might find yourself drawn towards here every day! Also, sometimes we can find a restaurant.com gift certificate to here and we feel like we've won the lottery.
