About Me & My Family

I’m a single mom with one 3 yr old boy. My two passions are traveling and raising my son. I love being a mom and there’s no place I’d rather be then with my son. I work full time and love to exercise.

Favorite Vacation Memory

Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
I’ll never forget flying home from Honolulu in first class with my 1.6 month old son on Delta. The plane did not have any milk for the flight and even though I boarded early not one person thought to inform me that the plane was not stocked with milk. Cash was still drinking from a bottle at this time and freaked out over having to go 5 hours without milk in his bottle. This old cranky lady was loudly complaining behind me the whole flight home about how she was tired of hearing my son cry (as if I wasn’t). I wanted to scream (but did not) at every employee of the airline for not informing me the plane had no milk until we were up in the air.

Best Places for Hot Chocolate with Kids in Tahoe

Who doesn't love hot chocolate? Some of the best memories I have as a kid are drinking hot chocolate with my parents. As an adult, some of the best hot cocoa I've ever gleefully thrown back has been in Tahoe. Here is Trekaroo's list of Best Places to Grab Hot Chocolate with the Family in Lake Tahoe.

Comment:
At Alpine Meadows, the ski school really makes it fun for little kids. Along with lessons, there is lunch with hot chocolate, movies and a playroom. For bigger kids there is the Junior Mountaineer program, skiing and snowboarding. Programs include ski equipment and lift tickets.

Outdoor Cabana Bars located around the rink at NorthStar (tented seating areas around the ice rink.) While all of the seating is in full view of the ice rink (which is great for keeping an eye on your skating kiddos), the most desirable seats are around the fire pits. While the bar sells a high priced smore kit (which gives you enough to satisfy the sweet cravings of six friends), the Northstar Village Market Place, which is a short walk from the Cabana, will sell you enough materials to outfit yourself and your pals multiple times over as well the scads of new friends you'll make.

Imagine a slow, easy ski along the shores of Lake Tahoe with a stop for a cup of hot chocolate with the kids before building a quick snowman peeking between the trees. The views are spectacular and the trails are groomed and marked for the beginner to the expert. Full cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available from the Mountain Sports Center.

"The Epitome of Family Friendly Accommodations"
Camp Richardson Historic Resort & Marina is the jewel of South Lake Tahoe. Its lake front, kid friendly, budget friendly, and activity rich. If Camp Richardson is on your bucket list, move it up to the first position.

The resort’s 40 lake front cabins are named after late model cars. My family spent a glorious December weekend in a year round cabin named Thunderbird. This cabin comfortably sleeps eight and is a stone’s throw from the lake. It offered a gas fireplace, full kitchen (including microwave, coffeemaker and toaster), with utensils, linens and towels.

We did not have phone, Internet, or television but thanks to my cell phone, our portable DVD players, and my laptop’s built in wireless card, I never felt “off the grid.” If you don’t own these things, have no fear; the front office has a few TV/DVD players available upon request. If you anticipate needing one, call in advance to reserve it. The resort also offers free Wi-Fi in its common room and general store and deli.

My daughter’s reaction to our cabin was unforgettable. While walking through it, she was jumping up and down chanting “This is the best trip ever!” My beau’s reaction was also rib tickling, after just one hour in our cabin he was already planning our annual return visit for the next 10 years!

It was cold outside, but we were cozy inside thanks to forced-air heating from vents throughout the cabin. Camp Richardson’s cabins have 12-15 gallon water heaters, much smaller than the water heaters of most homes. The main limitation is the inability to take lengthy consecutive showers. I’m guessing a family could take three short showers, 5 to 7 minutes, back to back with no problems.

There is a restaurant right on the water’s edge, The Beacon Bar and Grill, home of the famous Rum Runner. We had a delicious and affordable dinner here. Please see my review of The Beacon Bar and Grill for more details. http://tinyurl.com/cdrhc8f

Camp Richardson is bursting with family friendly activities. This year-round destination resort offers camping, boating, biking, beach-going, cross-country skiing, sleigh rides, and is just minutes from world-class ski and snowboard resorts and casinos. The full-service marina rents boats, seadoos, kayaks, paddleboats, and offers a rum runner cruise.

Regardless of your itinerary, don’t forget to squeeze in some nature walks. I took many stunning family photographs on the lake’s pier and the wooded property around our cabin. For me, a great photograph validates the cost of my vacation.

Traveler’s Tips:
1. Only two cabins have bathtubs.
2. Cabins rent only by the week in summer and fill up quickly. Campsites go early in the summer so it is recommended families book a couple months in advance.
3. Pack thick PJ’s for the kids if you visit in the winter.
4. Bears do frequent the area so it is important to make sure to store food properly and keep food out of cars so the bears don't break in.

This review is based on a complimentary stay at Camp Richardson Historic Resort & Marina in South Lake Tahoe, CA. I received no other compensation besides the hotel stay. Camp Richardson Historic Resort & Marina did not request that I express any particular point of view and my reviews always reflect my honest opinions.

Diamond Peak is known as "Your Tahoe Place for Kids". They serve some of the best hot chocolate in town at the Base Lodge. They also have a nationally recognized Child Ski Center that teaches kids 3-7 years old the sport of skiing. They offer private and group lessons. It's a fun safe environment for the children.

All resort guests can enjoy breakfast each day as part of their lodging. Granlibakken is known for its hearty, hot breakfast buffet featuring hot chocolate and whip cream for the kids. In addition to offering lodging, Granlibakken also has a small downhill skiing and snowboarding area, cross country skiing, and a snowplay area when you can slide downhill on a saucer.

"Nothing Short of Perfect"
Granlibakken Resort, on Tahoe's west shore, is located half a mile from Tahoe City and reigns supreme as family friendly Mecca. Bay Area residents should pay close attention to the resort’s advertised $139 midweek rate and $156 weekend rate for 2 adult skiers through the resort's Ski and Boarder's Package. Rates are per person, per night and include:

• Lodging at Granlibakken
• Hot breakfast buffet
• Adult lift ticket at one of 8 resorts
• Complimentary shuttle service to the local ski areas

* Lift ticket can be swapped for equipment and use of the trails at Tahoe Cross Country Center or a $65 spa credit toward services at Granlibakken’s onsite Lighthouse Spa.

Non-skiers pay an extra person charge of $25 or $27 when sharing the same room with two skiers, this rate includes breakfast. Children under 7 are free of charge; kids above the age of 8 are charged the non-skier fee.

After you subtract out the average cost of 4 lift tickets and 2 days worth of family breakfast, it’s like a family of four with two kids under 7 pays just $102 a night for lodging with free parking and free resort WiFi!

My family, two children ages 3 and 7, stayed in a two bedroom, two story townhome with a living room/dining area, full kitchen and fireplace. Our townhome featured the following amenities:

• Cable television with DVD
• Complimentary hot breakfast buffet
• In-room coffee maker
• Fully stocked kitchen (minus the food)

Granlibakken's hot breakfast buffet is delicious and the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for families with young children. On Sunday, my son woke up desiring bacon but the breakfast buffet was only serving sausage. When I told my son there was no bacon, he started to cry at our table. A member of Granlibakken’s exceptional staff noticed our dilemma and asked the cooks to fry bacon just for my son, AND THEY DID!

Granlibakken Resort and Conference Center provided my family with complimentary lodging for this review. They did not request that I express any particular point of view and my reviews always reflect my honest opinions.

The Squeeze In of Truckee, California has been pleasing kids since 1974. Their hot cocoa always wows and is served with a mountain of whipped cream and sprinkles. It's a winner every time, along with their signature Teddy Bear Pancake! Kids get toy baskets, get to write on the walls, and have a special menu. They’ve even been known to throw Princess Parties where kids get to meet Sleeping Beauty, Belle and even Cinderella.

Everything is made onsite - the ham/cheese croissants are recommended by locals. Don't be discouraged if there is a line, it moves really fast. There’s a great fireplace/sitting area for families. They even have toys, crayons and coloring books. Kids can run around and no one freaks out. :)
